I really want to thank Jeff Gerstmann, Greg Kasavin and Kevin VanOrd for their reviews over the years. Even though I don't rely on reviews any more as an adult there is no doubt these fine people helped shape how I see video games.
FYI reviewer, the island in this game is a different island called Palanai, not Hanoi. Just goes to show just how much attention this joke of a reviewer paid to this game.
After playing it, this game is actually pretty fun. I would go so far as to say in my eyes, games like Far Cry 3 and Dead Island Riptide are pretty much comparable and offer the same level of enjoyment. I fail to see why Far Cry 3 wins accolades.
I'm sorry but it's high time for the notion of what a video game is to evolve. A video game in my opinion is an interactive piece of software. It is an entertainment medium in a way that it requires some input from the player, be it linear and showing just what the developer wants to show or giving choices, freedom whatever. It does not mean that you have to be constantly in control mashing away at buttons. Unless we give way for games to evolve as an "interactive medium" and not just a world where you control a character with guns there will be a serious decline in this industry.
And like any other medium such as movies/books you have very different types of video games. For e.g. would you approach a self help book in the same way as a fiction novel? Clearly each book has it's own niche market and is meant for a particular audience. You would not approach your average summer action blockbuster movie in the same way as a serious movie with a morality play that is meant for a more thoughtful audience but will of course not generate the same numbers as the action movie. And this is ultimately what David Cage is trying to say.
And as a gamer who values good stories in any medium, especially games, Beyond Two Souls is my type of game so I'll buy it. However if your thing is more shooting stuff up in Battlefield or Call of Duty by all means you have the right to enjoy that but not to spoil the experience for people who enjoy Heavy Rain or Beyond.
@JustPlainLucas Yeah seriously. Though this might still be good at 5 mins of just the comments but I really don't get The Point. If it's talking about gaming it needs to be longer than 4 mins.
