just finished watching the dvd extra cased in the limited edition version, and the developers make it quite clear that gameplay wise all they wanted was a GoW 1.5, as they only wanted to tweak what was already a great gaming experience ( the cover system is so much better now, the swat turns are great ). in 2 they wanted to develop the story line more than anything. but for a graphics comparison, gamespot could have put more effort into the screenshots. both games really should look better than this. still, if u can't pick the improvements ( i'm talking actual graphics, not the style of it ) then u should maybe take ur 'sony' eyepatch off. GoW 2 is fuzzy looking? it's called environmental effects and takes a hell of a lot more processing power to accomplish, giving a more realistic effect. the armour in 2 was made softer because they wanted it to look like an alloy, not the heavy metal look in 1, which would be impossible for a soldier to carry. the old gears multiplayer maps were made greener to show the change of time from 1 to 2, and the finer details are obvious if u even cared to take the time to look. transparent windows in 2 replaced the plain old textured windows of 1. look at the locust, his muscle tone is much rounder ( meaning higher polygon count ) and even the gears armour now shows more dents and scratches. there are more background objects on screen in 2 ( of course apart from the BIG statue..ooooo ) and the texture mapping is MUCH more detailed. as for claims on this forum like ' you can't see the scars and wrinkles on the faces ', seriously, clean the half inch thick vaseline, or whatever it is, coating of your monitor, then you'll see them. and why would anyone want to play maps that are identical in every fashion to the first game, then i would feel ripped off. the changes made on the old maps were well implemented and thought out, and the medium weapons are definitely more balanced, so gone are the days of the shotgun-only fests. and yes, i still play both gears so gears 1 is still fresh in my mind. while for some it may not be an improvement in style to say it's not an improvement as a technical piece is a travesty. i have gamed on almost every console since the vic20, pc's included, and GoW1 was one of the most fresh game experiences i've had, with GoW2 being the icing on the cake. and as for the 'obvious' sony fanboys commenting here, what....run out of games to talk about in the ps3 section.

get over yourselves fanboys! better or not the fact is, if the 360 didn't exist, the PS3 would probably be no more than a PS2 with a blu-ray drive shovelled in. Sony is as big a money grubbing pack of theives as Microsoft any day. and speaking of breaking consoles i went through 2 PS2's thanks to it's below standard optical drive.
