This doesn't count the footprint from the manufacturing of consoles, the energy used to develop the games, or even all the infrastructure for online play and distribution. The actual footprint is much bigger.
Nice pick Gamespot. I agree completely. Easily the best game I played this year. If there was a game of the decade I'd even put it a nudge ahead of Zelda BOTW.
Of the nominees this year I've played Ghosts of Tushima, TLOU2, and Alyx. Alyx is so much better than the other two it's nearly criminal, though all three are great. Tushima is gorgeous but felt kinda basic in gameplay. TLOU2 had the best contextual animations and a riveting if irritating story. Alex wasn't quite as pretty as the others, but the gameplay really mops the floor with the other two. I have never experienced such tension. The puzzles and pacing were right on point and that ending! I feel like Alyx would be the no-brainer winner for GOTY if more folks played it.
