The Films of 2011
The year of 2011 has been an outstanding year for cinema when you take into account the beautiful gems of films that came out. Whether it's the amazing black and white, not to mention silent, film The Artist or the superb family drama The Descendants there was something for everyone this year. I've seen many good films this year but there were 5 that I thought were truly mezmerizing. That's why I have turned my list into a top 5 so now lets start counting down.
Hugo is mastermind Martin Scorcesse's first family film (not to mention one of his best). The film follows the story of Hugo Cabaret a young orphan who lives in a train station in Paris. Hugo's father died in a fire when Hugo was a young boy. His father left him with an robotic like machine which was able to unlock the importance of film history in one of the best films of the year.
4. The Tree of Life
Terrence Malick's recent religious allegory about the insignifigance of human life in the overall order of things and about the influence of the world on humanity. The movie contained excellent performances on all parts ecspecially those of Jessica Chastain and Hunter McCracken. The film proved to have the best cinematography and some of the best visual effects of the year. This film is beautiful and emotionally captivating a must see!
3. The Descendants
The Descendant's is a drama about the relationships of families during events of tragedy. I can honestly say this film absolutley breaks no new ground whatsoever but I would still give it a 10/10 ( a perfect score). The film doesn't have to do anything new whatsoever because of how well it was put together. The movie was touching and though I didn't feel it was truly depressing it was very emotional. The film has a great performance by Clooney ( possibly the best of the year) along with the rest of the cast. It's funny and heartfelt and astounding.
2. The Artist
The front runner in the Oscar race the aspiring silent, plus black and white, film that has the world cheering! I had great expectations of this film and they were exceeded in every way, shape, and form. The film is incredibly charming. The plot concerns the relationship of George Valentin,a famous actor from the silent era,and Peppy Miller a dancer set for a big break. The film doesn't hold much underneath the surface but it is incredibly fun to watch. This is a true film for everyone. A real masterpiece!!!
1. Midnight in Paris
I excpected to like this film but I had no idea how much I would love it. Im not extremly familiar with Woody Allen's work but from what I've seen this is by far the best. One of the most suprising things about is the great performances by the actors even Owen Wilson did well! The film showed that the past isn't all it's cracked up to be while the camera zoomed around the beautiful scenery of Paris. The movies scenery was gorgeous as was the makeup and costumes. It was an unexcpected suprise but I declare Midnight in Paris the movie of the year!!!!!!!!!!!!
