From the place I go to I can get a western digital 640gb for the same price I pay for a 500gb seagate.

(AUD - AUSSIE PRICES)

W.D SATA 640GB $94

SEAGATE SATA 500GB $94

and..for 10 bucks more I can get a W.D 750GB.

So I'm a little skeptical, why is it so much lower. It does not say model numbers in the catologue!

I am in need of a new harddrive as some of you are aware :) I am curious whether there is a big difference between the two (Seagate and Western Digital) in performance and other things of that nature xD

What are your opinions?

XP all the way for me. I have used both and in my opinion I'd stick with XP. Sure Vista is pretty, but with the themes for XP (There are some for VISTA to of course) you can make it look the same or better.

DX10 is the only reason I gave Vista a go and to be honest it's not worth it.

Also, it is the system drive that is failing, not the documents drive right?

(I have 2 drives)

You say that after the PC crashed, it would not boot up for a while... This in itself would lead me to believe a hardware problem. What was the cause of the boot failure? Was the machine posting? Not finding the hd? Or what?Captain__Tripps

This is wha happended

  • I was browsing FireFox 3 and had been opening many tabs. I opened another tab and then my computer stalled, I pressed CTRL + ALT + DEL, CTRL + SHIFT + ESC, ALT+F4 AND ALT+TAB to now prevail.
  • I rebooted my computer by pressing the button.
  • The error message comes up (it does not load up windows, this message showed up where you would normally see "Press Enter to Boot From Disk) it said DISK BOOT ERROR - CANNOT BOOT FROM DISK, INSERT SYSTEM DISK THEN PRESS ENTER
  • I have seen this error before on previous computers and before so I decided I would first unplug from the power and leave for a minute.
  • I boot back up,same problem. I unplug from the power, ground myself and then make sure all harddisks are firmly placed with their sata cables.
  • Doesn't fix it, I unplug from the power and let it "cool down" for around 2-3 hours.
  • I return, it boots up but unusually slow (Windows loading screen hangs for a bit) and then I start seeing all kind of lag, stuttering etc.
