@paulovaca I agree with you Paul. Something really is rotten in the state of Denmark by how much this MMO has been slammed by gamespot - especially considering some of the mediocre games that have been given much higher ratings.

As cjmilla commented earlier in this thread - Leaf Johnson on IGN does a much more thorough and "clearer depiction" of the game than Kevin. And not only has gamespot NOT been willing to address the obvious bad review here - but a few days ago did yet another follow up piece that was simply a laundry list of negative things they wish TESO would have.

Sure - I can make a laundry list of any game out right now showing what it doesn't have - and make it look bad. In fact, if you look hard enough, you can nitpick anything to death.

TESO - whether Kevin or Gamespot wants to admit or not (and they don't want to admit it) - is now the MMO of the moment. Its server population is strong - its PvP is the best I've ever seen in an MMO - it's progression skill system brilliant, it's audio values in sound effects and music is grade A, and it has just dated all MMOs that rely on textual context for their quests. In truth, I believe TESO is the next generation of MMO.

You've not heard any of this from Kevin or any other reviewer here on Gamespot. And that really is too bad, because in the end, it isn't TESO that will be taking a reputation hit here - but Gamespot's reputation that will be taking a piss.

And yes - the reviewers have either gotten old or have been bought off.

@SilentAssassin 6 is too low. Take a look at Metacritic reviews to see much more praise for the game, many review sites have given TESO much higher marks. And take a look at where the game right now is sitting: the number one spot on Gamespot. Even the user scores here on Gamespot are on average a point higher than Kevin's.

His review does point out some of the weaknesses of the game, but 6 is still too low given TESO's strengths.

What's even more remarkable - is Titanfall got a 9 here on Gamespot, and it is just another shooter with no campaign to speak of, and a small set of maps that people will tire of in a few weeks. TESO will endure far longer.

I pulled the trigger after looking at other reviews online (a good many of them much higher than the one Kevin here writes). I also took a look at many of the youtube videos, especially those showing PvP - which finally made the sale for me.

Everyone has an opinion, but so far I'm liking it quite a lot. It feels like Elder Scrolls, it runs smoothly on my pc, looks great for an MMO, and yes - if you're looking for a totally open world - that's not the design they chose - you pretty much have quite well done quests to choose from as you go through different areas. Love it or hate it but it doesn't make the game necessarily bad. And if you're really not into the questing - you can get into the PvP pretty quickly. Crafting looks pretty well done too.

I'd give it a 7.5 or 8 so far.

Sad - since these guys spent many years and quite a lot of money developing ESO. But not only have they developed a kind of MMO that has already been done and is now stale to most pc players, but it appears that they didn't even do it that well.

FTP is their only hope - and even that may not last.

I first noticed this glitch when I was playing Franklin and had stored his car in the garage, came back next day, and the same car was stacked on top of a duplicate. Like the car was instanced twice, and both cars were in the garage, but one was on top of the other.

Weird.

This is what I don't get in today's supposedly non-rigged capitalistic market. A CEO can perform terribly, even run his company into bankruptcy - avoiding and destroying the pensions of the workers in the corporation - but can still walk away with a 4.7 million package.

Am I the only one that this seems a bit imbalanced?

That just makes no sense - that they couldn't code the Sims living in the same house and working at same place. I think for many players - that's exactly the kind of new simulation they were looking forward to. It sounds like the same "cutting corners" rationale along with similar fabrication they used to argue the always online feature was necessary.

Balanced reviews. Thanks. The game isn't a total loss, but very sloppy release.

I've been playing off and on for last two days now. It's true, the servers have buckled from likely the demand and it shows poor preparation by EA.

On the other hand, this Simcity (and I've played them all) - knocks it out of the ballpark. It is the best Simcity ever made IMO and will be a massive seller for EA - once they fix their screw up.

Yeah - you got the naysayers (and I suspect some of them are just trashing the game because of corporate competition and nothing else.) DRM - bleh, just whiners for what is the inevitable future for all computer games.

Maxis and EA (despite itself) has put out a damn good game this time round.
