Some choose to see this as selling out, i see it as evolving. You can't keep doing the same thing over and over, expecting it to bring food to the table.. and truth is people do change within time.. and also; Selling out is doing something that's against your own principles for money or other benefit. What you see here is (positive) change in a person.. dont get it twisted :) And for looking harder in the 90's - all that was gangsta rap. it just aint a thing anymore, hence rappers do look fly and fresh instead of a badass. Part of it is selling records, and another part is i guess everybody (including rap artists) like to look stylish :)I'm just amazed at how all the old rappers sold out. Ice T was in trouble back in the 90's because of his anti-police rhetoric and album, copkiller. Now he plays a cop on Law and Order. Snoop Dogg had a badboy image, now he sings back up lyrics for Katy Perry. Ice Cube starred in gang movies and hardcore rapping, now he stars in kids movies.
