Something that you're probably heard a lot before, is how Bethesda "ruined" the Fallout series with Fallout 3, and then Obsidian brought the greatness back with New Vegas. I see a lot of people saying that.. and I completely disagree. First of all, I'm not saying that New Vegas sucked or anything like that. In fact, it actually did some things better than Fallout 3. Like iron sights, weapon mods, etc.. But the main thing that NV did better, and most likely why people claim it's the better game, is quest choices. Instead of having to go down a specific route within the narrative of a quest you can choose what you want to do, or who to side with. And sometimes even those choices had multiple ways of doing them. In theory, that's great. But sadly I found most of the quests too boring to really care about the choices they offered. The game world in New Vegas felt empty and lifeless to me. Yeah I know, it's a post-apocalyptic wasteland, it's supposed to feel like that. But that's not really it. Fallout 3 did feel like an actual wasteland. You could see the effects the bombs had on all the environment around you.. The destroyed buildings and highways. It really felt more real, and I was way more immersed in the game world than I did in NV. That whole post-apocalyptic sense was completely absent from NV for me. It was just walking around in the desert and doing boring stuff. I was completely disconnected from the game. I played FO3 in 2008, and NV in 2011. NV was only 2 years ago, but I can hardly remember any quests or locations in the game. And yet I still clearly remember most of FO3. The quests, locations, even the characters. What I'm trying to say here is that NV having choices does not magically make it better. If a game has a great, interesting world that can fully immerse you in it.. If it makes you feel that this world has a soul, you can easily ignore its few flaws. And having a great feature like choices within quests without an interesting world to support it, just ruins the whole thing.
Hello, people who read my blog. How are you doing? E3 is tomorrow! :D I'm really excited as usual, because E3 has always been my favorite 4 days of the year. This time will be the best one in years, because we'll finally see how game will look on the new consoles. Of course I'm a PC gamer and I don't really care about consoles, but them having ancient hardware has limited what the developers can do with games in general for a long time. And not just graphically, but also in how big levels are, and things like that. So it'll be really great to see how this new hardware is gonna change things. And also since they're using an x86 architecture, it's gonna be much easier to port games this time around. :) So first of all, the Xbox One. Sure, we all had a good time making fun of Microsoft and their disastrous reveal of the new Xbox, the ridiculous DRM, and how they focused on TV and not games.. But do you really think that in E3 they'll just continue talking about sports and not games? :| What If they showed like.. fantastic, amazing exclusives during their conference. Will that be enough to make gamers ignore or forget that whole DRM and used games deal? It'll be really interesting to see what happens there. Enough console talk and let's get to the important part.. the games! I'm really looking forward to see more of The Witcher 3, Watch_Dogs, and Batman Arkham Origins. And speaking of that last one, I'm kind of worried about the fact that Rocksteady is not the one developing it.. But we'll just have to wait and see. We all know some of the games being shown there, but what will be really exciting is the announcements! :D What I really want to see getting announced is Rollercoaster Tycoon 4, Mirror's Edge 2, a new Monkey Island game, Just Cause 3, and maybe a new NOLF game? That would be really cool. There's probably a lot more, but those are all I can remember at the moment. If you've posted here on the forums during E3 before, you know it gets really slow and glitchy. (yes, more than usual. :P) And 2 years ago the forum went down during one of the conferences for like half an hour. This time though, it's already breaking down. Since yesterday, I've seen thread pages suddenly becoming empty, and posts disappearing. And with how heavy the traffic will get on the site starting tomorrow, it'll probably get even worse. I know the technical staff is busy with the E3 stuff right now, but hopefully they can do something about this. Anyways. There's now about 20 hours until the first conference. Will you be watching live? And what game are you looking forward to seeing the most? :)
So I'm not sure what really made remember this, but do any of you remember that Speedy Eggbert game? It was a side-scroller platforming that came out back in 1998, where you control a yellow egg-like creature. I really loved that game back then, and I remember spending a lot of time with the level editor! :D The thing is, whenever I mention this game to anyone, they never know it even exists. :| So I'm wondering if anyone here played it before..
Hello everyone! :) I've been really busy with various stuff recently, that I completely forgot about my 7th anniversary here.. Which was two months ago. :D (I just checked, and it seems I always post anniversary blogs a month or two late. :P) Wow.. 7 years! This is really a lot of time spent here.. And even though the quality of the forums keeps going down, and most of the people I know here left or rarely post, this place still feels like my internet home. :P
It's finally done! :D This whole thing took 2 days to make, but I spent more than a week trying to pick a color. :P As you can see I ended up with greyish blue. I posted a weird creature last year, but that was just me trying out different brushes and seeing how they work. This Orc is officially my first character/creature. :) (right click -> view image, to see full size)
Hello everyone. :) I'm currently working on this creature in Zbrush, and while it's still not finished, It looks decent. So i decided to share my progress so far. Enjoy. :) (Note: half the image is missing because of the page size, so just right click it and select view image) I didn't really intend to make this Orc-like creature.. I was sculpting without any reference or a drawing and just making stuff up as I go, and that was what i ended up with. :P
Hello everyone... My birthday was yesterday, and it was really an awesome day. :D I went with some friends to see The Hobbit.. And while it wasn't horrible, it wasn't great either. Most of the scenes are stretched way too long, and i think the movie would've been so much better if it was only 2 hours. Still, it was kinda fun, and i hope the sequels have actual content. :P Anyways, happy new year to all of you. :)
...And holy crap, that ending was amazing! I don't want to spoil anything anything here, but this is one of the very few games that actually made me tear up. :( I'm noticing that most games these days have disappointing endings, or even end suddenly without any explanation. So I'm really glad that there are still developers out there who care about telling a great story. It's always great when a game manages to make you feel something.. even if that thing is sadness. To be able to create such amazing characters and make you care about them is a rare talent that i wish more game developers would have. I'm still working on my best of 2012 list, but I think that The Walking Dead might be my game of the year. If you haven't played this game you really should, or you'd be missing out on one of the best game of this entire year. :)
Hello everyone! Happy Holidays / Merry Christmas! :) It's been almost half a year since my last blog. I stopped making them when the old comments disappeared. But when they came back i was too lazy to write again. :P How are you all doing? Disappointed that there was no zombie apocalypse yesterday? Anyways, just like every year, I'll be posting my own best of game awards list, which I'm working at right now. but maybe instead of just making a list of names, I'll also write a few lines about why each game deserves its award.. we'll see. There will also be a list of all the games i played this year, which is gonna be huge! There were a lot of great games this year, but it also had the worst game i have ever played... Hitman Absolution. But we'll get to that in the next blog. :D I also started playing League of Legends. I'm not really a fan of this type of games, but it's surprisingly quite fun.. at least when your team isn't made up of a bunch of idiots. I'm playing on the EU West server though, so sadly i can't participate in the Gamespot events. :( If you want to add me, my summoner name is M3raxes. :)
Last year when i reached 50 emblems, i put them all in an image and posted it here. Now that i passed 100 emblems, i decided to do it again.. because why not? :P When i was halfway though making it, i got 3 more emblems so i added them anyway. And while writing this post i saw that i got 1 more, but i`m too lazy to add it. So here ya go. :)
