I recently played through FC5 and got 100% completion. I bought the Gold Edition so now I'm just waiting on Season Pass content. I enjoyed the game enough. It was cool to have it set in the US, as opposed to another exotic location. The villains got a lot more screen time this time around. Vaas and Pagan Min didn't get nearly enough screen time. The starting rifle is actually decent, LOL. Prepper stashes were a nice touch too. Helicopters with machine guns and rockets definitely beat the gyrocopter and a M79 in terms of firepower. It's similar to 3 and 4, but those were good games, so I won't dock it for that. Although others will.
On to my gripes about the game. One of the most annoying things is the lack of weapon variety. Many of the weapons are clones of each other with the same stats and just a different skin. For example, under SMGs, there are 4 of them, 3 of which are just variants of the MP5. I've seen the Vector .45ACP on some YouTube vids, but I never got it.
Another thing, it was nice that hunting took a back seat in the game to the perk system, but acquiring certain things like more weapons slots take much less time in 4 than in 5. I can have all 4 weapon slots unlocked in 4 before seeing Longinus for the first time. Hunting in FC4 doesn't take a lot of time and gets you upgrades pretty fast. Also money is a lot easier to come by in 4. This is mostly from the fact that there is no enemy loot to sell in 5. And enemies carry $10 at most on them. I'm always broke or on the verge of being broke in 5.
While it was a breath of fresh air that the setting was in the US for familiarity's sake, Hope County isn't all that interesting compared to Kyrat. This is my opinion, but it's just really flat and the environment doesn't seem to change much. Far Cry 4 had a lot of vertical-ness to it and it sometimes felt like a jungle gym.
Lastly, this one was a big annoyance for the whole game: aim assist. I have the PS4 version. I always turn aim assist off in shooters. The game is playing itself for you when you have it on. Of course I turned assist off in 5, but it wasn't truly off. Aiming my weapon at an enemy will cause the sight to slow down near the enemy and throw my aim off. Also my weapon sight will follow a moving target, even with the compound bow. This was a constant immersion breaking nuisance that doesn't appear to be nearly as visible in 4, if at all.
I like both FC4 and 5, but some of 5's annoyances like lack of weapon variety and sticky aim knock some points off. I'd say I like FC4 a bit better than 5. It's not a landslide or anything, but the little things can add up.
