If you like this recent Insomniac developed game then you’ll also like their last game, Sunset Overdrive. In fact this game is using a modified Sunset Overdrive game engine. Sunset Overdrive is still one of Insomniac’s best original IP and original creation. Without Sunset Overdrive, this game couldn’t have been made. I support the multiplat developer Insomniac so I’ll get this but maybe later when it’s on sale. I was going to pre-order to get the pre-order skins but I read they’re just early access and could be unlocked in game. Can’t wait to see it on my 4K 65” TV set on my Pro.

It's actually not.......it's using the Ratchet & Clank engine which is different.

There was a thread about it a few weeks ago.

You're almost accurate. The techniques and engine first showed up in Sunset Overdrive and then in the latest Ratchet which came after. So they're using the original techniques and engine that was first used in Sunset Overdrive. Insomniac said it here: https://kotaku.com/podcast-how-spider-man-ps4-came-together-1796328173 and Digital Foundry also states that it first originated in Sunset Overdrive around the 6:45 mark here: https://youtu.be/L2wr7vebb6Y

An Insomniac dev already confirmed on Twitter a while ago it’s the R&C engine. It is ing the same techniques isn’t the same as using the same engine. Games can share techniques without sharing engines when they are made by the same dev.

Yes but Ted Price who is Insomniac's CEO and Founder stated it's using a modified Sunset Overdrive's engine, the conversation starts 41:22 mark here https://kotaku.com/podcast-how-spider-man-ps4-came-together-1796328173 Sony approached Insomniac because Marvel loved what they did with Sunset Overdrive so much, they wanted Insomniac to make a Marvel game using Sunset Overdrive's template. They could have done another Marvel hero game but ultimately chose Spider-Man because of how he traverse and in the 44:39 mark states because of what they learned from Sunset Overdrive they could apply it to a Spider-Man game. Even Wikipedia states they're using Sunset Overdrive's engine which came before the Ratchet remake. The ultimate point here, is that this Spider-Man game could not be done if the great game Sunset Overdrive wasn't created. It was Sunset Overdrive that attracted Marvel and Sony happen to have rights with the Spider-Man character.

So instead of PS4 having BC and being able to enhance old games especially if you already own them like Xbox One X, you’re happy about playing old games but paying again via subscription even if you own it?

I think the biggest issue here is having your account locked due to lack of cross-play with all. Also what Mike is saying is what millions of gamers and news media are saying and that’s how tone deaf Sony still are with this issue. This guy plays a lot of games on his Xbox, PC, PS4 and Switch and who knows what else he has. I don’t know another company’s corporate Vice President especially from Sony & PlayStation that actually plays the video games their trying to sell. It’s just sad some of these Sony fans are fine with having their accounts locked and fine with having less consumer friendly options.

I’m glad I “upgraded” to a Pro but how is it on a regular PS4?

A last gen game you pay for again via PS+ if you want to keep playing even if you own the original to access and unlock enhancements for a fee lol. Meanwhile Xbox has free backward compatibility plus they enhance them as good as remasters via power of the X free of charge if you own them already and when GwG give you BC games you don’t have, you keep them forever. Too bad cows don’t like playing old games lol.

At the end of the day, gaming is a business and the big three are making money and seeing success. You really gotta sit back and laugh at the fannies especially the cattle fannie pack as they’re really into ordinal numbers like placement for the special Olympic. “Look at me look at me mommy I’m in first place”. “Good job son, you’re special”. Lol.

If they’re still working on it, why give a release date, what if it still needs more work and polish, will they delay it or if they don’t will they serve it half cooked. The multiplat developer Insomniac is just doing what Sony tells them to do but Insomniac are left to do the PR and damage control on social media and such.
