Sorry, I just re-read your original post and only just now noticed the part about rpg elements. In that case probably just Fallout 3 and Borderlands.

Those who are saying Metro 2033 is similar to Stalker aren't considering the fact that it and stalker have dramatically different play stiles. The only thing they have in common is that they take place in very similar parts of the world and have a post-apocalyptic setting. The Stalker games are very non linear and Metro is very linear. The games I'd recommend have already been mentioned: Fallout 3, Far Cry 2. I'd also recommend Far Cry and Crysis (both feel non linear-but are still fairly linear.) I haven't played them, but Red Faction: Guerilla and Just Cause 2 are very non linear if I understand correctly.
Half-Life 2
Doom
Daggerfall
Oblivion
Warcraft Orcs and Humans
I thought doom 3 was a classic, played it through 5 times. Loved every minut. So im really excited about doom 4.mimic-Denmark
damn right! I'm on play-through # 6 right now.
stupid design decision, like you can't use your weapon and use a flashlight at the same time.:\Franko_3
Stupid if you're a noob. That was a design feature to create atmosphere and it worked. I'll admit the story could've used a serious rewrite.

Seriously, why even post?
Seriously, why even ask why? Why waste the space on my computer screen? Gaaaaawwd!
[QUOTE="flipin_jackass"]Obviously I don't. But why do you hate the company TC?Zythyl
Allow me to explain myself. Sure their games are great. Fantastic. But as far as originality goes it's a simple known fact they have based most of their success from an already existing IP (the Warhammer universes).
Also, I was flicking through the Diablo II strategy guide this morning and came accross this: "In 1996, the original Diablo was released to the world and immediately (like all Blizzard games), it reshaped the computer gaming landscape." Isn't that a tad arrogant?
I do admire what they're doing for the PC industry though.
Diablo's innovative & addictive play spawned several popular "diablo clones". It basically (re)invented the action RPG. Anyway I don't hate them, though I don't much care for them....anymore. I've been a devoted fan since Warcraft: Orcs and Humans. But Blizzard sold out with WoW. (I don't blame them they were sitting on a massive cash cow-and I hear they're holding down the fort pretty well for the pc.) The thing I object too is that they haven't released games I've found worth playing since Warcraft III as I am not part of the gigantic mmo crowd. and I'm finding the pictures of Diablo III are looking awfully reminisent of WoW. Anyway however it looks I'm sure it'll be a good game. Starcraft II will probably be good too. We'll see
