His games appeal to whom they appeal to... those artistic gamers.
Why are games like Mario not artistic in comparison? Do tell.
Why isn't COD? Everything is art, and nothing is art... deep, huh?
Because Mario is the mainstream. Because we all grew up with Mario. It is the Zeitgeist of our culture. Mario defines gaming more than any other character is maybe Pac Man or Donkey Kong or maybe Ryu. You can argue they are art, but if we get bogged down in semantics then it becomes impossible to have a conversation. You just debate the definition of each word and everything stalls.
David Cage makes games that are different by their very nature.
For me that's why I don't like them.
I find his games to be clunky and thought provoking, but I need a certain level of enjoyment or adventure to compel to delve into an interactive environment and David Cage fails me on that. But... that being said I do play all his games, eventually. Once they are cheap enough. I think I keep hoping for one of them to amaze me... it seems like with a long enough time line and enough games he has the potential (if only by accident) to make something amazing. I just think he has failed to do so on every outing thus far.
