GTA 5 has been very hyped by media. In most cases, games that are so hyped, with excess, they generally tend to be good looking but lack charming and fun factor.
Well, this is not the case. I think GTA 5 is one of the most sophisticated and complex games ever programmed up to date, im an amateur programmer that enjoys coding games and programs with visual basic and gamemaker since i was a teenager, and this game ignites a great deal of respect from me, because i can see Rockstar's creation with a lot of admiration, from another perspective, rather than the more simplistic view any regular gamer could give due to the fact i have a bit more knowledge in the subject.
The more you know about games, the more you will appreciate the hard work Rockstar Games gave to GTA5.
I have been playing Grand theft auto games, since GTA2 from the PSX. That was my first experience with the saga, later on, i remember buying GTA1 and GTA London just because GTA 2 was so great.
Several years later, GTA3 came along with the PS2, and the real shock came. Playing the third installment of the series was really magical. I still cant forget the sensation i had the first time i played GTA3, that feeling of freedom and the ability to do whatever you wanted into a city that felt very much alive, was a thing i ve never experienced before with any game. And so, later on, GTA games became truly successful.
Vice City was a huge improvement with the addition of bikes, helicopters and places to buy and visit, it was packed with even more content, and made it a great sequel. (prequel?)
Gta SA came along then, but in this case i didnt like it too much. SA was full of unnecessary stuff which reminded me the saying “quantity over quality”, 80% of kids today that were born with the game tend to say is one of the best GTA, but me, that i ve been playing the saga since GTA2 and GTA 1, id rather say the opposite. For me, SA really didnt have the magic touch 3 and VC had.
Later, GTA liberty city stories and vice city stories were released, but were nothing special.
GTA 4 with all its expansions (gay tony and lost and damned), was a huge improvement due to its better graphics and awesome physics but felt kind of limited. The map wasnt that big and the activities you could do was also a step backwards comparing to SA, plus Niko Bellic was a lame character.
And now GTA 5 seems to learn from past errors and improves the game in every single aspect, reaching a level maybe better than excellence.
The story very simplistic but entertaining nevertheless, and the ability to choose between 3 main characters and be able to switch into any of them, anytime you want during the game, is a innovative concept never made before. *on a side note, i remember Battlefield2 for PS2, where you were able to do something similar, switching from soldier to soldier.
Graphics are just... next level. Sometimes i will be wondering if you are really playing a PS3 or you are playing a next generation console. The limits of the current ps3 360 generation are taken simply to another level. You wont believe what Rockstar games where able to accomplish until you really play the game.
Explosions are one of the best special effects in the game, they look so realistic is ridiculous. The overall map size is huge, and has different landscapes to please everyone. You have deserts, swamps, mountains, country lands, forests, Los Santos city, a huge ocean, a huge lake, the air space which is amazingly huge to fly with any aircraft you want, you name it.
Reviewing this game is very complicated due to the fact is so vast and immense, with so many things to do and explore. I can only think of Skyrim that could even challenge the exploration factor of GTA5, but rather than that, GTA 5 rules video games up to this date.
Play the game and see for yourself.
The online feature is still very buggy so i wont review it in this article.
The only 2 major flaws of the game are as follows:
A) COPS ARE INSANELY DIFFICULT TO DEAL WITH, and i mean it !. Even with 2 stars it will be a pain to get rid of them. And also, they tend to ram into you with their cars in a very suicide and crazy fashion, its not very realistic. Also police while shooting you from helicopters are also very difficult to deal with. They have bulls eye shooting precision and you could get killed brutally with only 2 or 3 stars. So expect some frustration here and there.
B) Cars disappear. Once you park your favorite car somewhere, and come back after walking only some meters, the car is very tend to banish. Even if you spent a lot of money tunning it, if you go away and then return you will be very pissed to find out that its no longer there. Huge bug, huge frustation.
Summing up, GTA5 is a prime game. Even with those major flaws, its a great game. Get this now.
Cheers good people.
