I can't believe people are listing games that are just a few years old . . . . . Ok, maybe I can.

Anyway:

FF1, FFIII(VI), FFX. I can't say how many times I've beaten those.

...or...

Legend of Zelda (NES), SMB, Animal Crossing (does it end, really?)

I know it really is FF VI, but when the game was released in the US and internationally for the first time, the title was FF III. I guess I prefer to stick to that name.btineo
Its official US title was FFIII. I'll refer to it by its given name in the context of the system in which it was released.

On a side note, elitism is always funny, but especially when the topic isn't "elite" at all.

[QUOTE="dominae"][QUOTE="Mack2D2"]Is this whole thread a joke? Maybe I'm just cold hearted, but no video game has really made me even the least bit emotional... I might be able to understand someone getting their heart strings tugged from some of the Final Fantasy games, maybe 1 or 2 of the Zeldas... but they are games, and I for one am able to enjoy games without being sucked completely into an alternate sub-concious type world where I start to actually care for video game characters as though they were friends of mine. I love video games, and I'd probably be bored as crap without them, but come on...Mack2D2

So movies and music (or any art in general) don't trigger any emotion inside of you? Ok, then.

The occasional movie will make me feel a little emotional, but there's a large difference between those movies and any games I play. The movies that tend to make me feel emotion are ones based on real life events, and these events sometimes strike home on things that have happened in my life that I can relate to. I can't really relate to a magical midget sacrificing herself to destroy a portal to a dark world... or a giant spikey shelled tortis kidnapping a princess who is then rescued by a plumber.

So you only find emotional worth in characters, not themes? In your example of the "magical midget" you bring up the theme of self-sacrifice in light of a greater good. If you can get past the fact that these are "magical midgets" you can actually explore what it might take for you to commit such an act, or what you might feel if someone sacrificed himself for you. Many games cover epic themes not unlike antiquated literature.

My mom has the same problem. She can't stand Lord of The Rings for the same reason. She can't get past the mythological characters to see the human themes of conflict, sacrifice, and redemption. Eh, to each his own.

It is kinda funny....

I'll be happy if I don't see another Root Beer Tapper port again. People say many negative things about Nintendo, but some of those very statements can be made for Namco and Midway.

But, then again, nostalgia sells pretty d@mn well.

/end digression

I was secretly hoping to see some original first-party content on WiiWare (i.e. new levels for SMB, etc.) but I guess Nintendo won't be developing for WiiWare. A missed opportunity, in my opinion.

EDIT:

There will be a small handful of remakes, but they're less remakes than new editions. The ones that come to mind are bomberman, Dr. Mario (with Mii compatability) and Tetris.effthat
I had forgotten about those. Nice.

According to an article on Develop, Nintendo isn't looking to put retro titles on WiiWare. From the article:

"Nintendo has made it very clear to us that we'll not only be making a better royalty rate from WiiWare games, but we'll also have a better chance of selling games - the service won't be clogged up with the retro titles that have blighted the chances of many independent studios on Xbox Live Arcade," said one studio business development boss, speaking to Develop under conditions of anonymity."

What do you think? Is the VC enough for retro, or were you looking forward to remakes of clas-sic retro titles?
