Fans love it. There's quite a bit of fanfare for the new Wii sequel. But after watching gameplay videos, it just doesn't look like a great game to play through. It looks more like a padded-out version of those half-baked "flying" minigames you would encounter in your average platformer/action-adventure game - like a movie-licensed game or, more recently, the "pop balloons as you control a giant bird" minigame in Zelda: Twilight Princess - only restricted to a 2D, on-rails way of control. So how come so many people are psyching themselves for Journey of Dreams?
Maybe this game set the blueprint for those "flying" minigames/regular games I'm talking about? If that's the case, I respect that; no doubt that would have made it pretty awesome when it came out. But what would make the sequel fun to play nowadays?
What I like to do is wait until the week of updates is up on Friday night, and then have one big satisfying read. It helps to avoid sinking into an over-studious and speculative fanboy mood. But the fact that I even make the conscious effort to do that just goes to show how incredible this game will be.
It'll be the first Smash Bros game I've actually owned, as opposed to played in fun spurts at friends' places, and I'm looking forward to really getting into it.
New Super Mario Bros.? I've just heard very good things about it. I don't mind a solid platformer, either.
Sonic Rush? I'm a massive fan of the 2D Sonic games - Sonic 3 and Knuckles is one of my favourite games ever - so this might just be up my alley.
Super Mario 64 DS? Pretty much the same reasons as NSMB. Also the graphics look pretty amazing, and I've played Mario 64 before so I pretty much know what I'm getting.
My one condition is that the game isn't either too easy or too short. I want something really challenging that will last me a good long while.
