It's not illegal. And secondly, it would still take someone knowing what they were doing to really do anything useful with it.

I am anticipating the effects of this Hack soon. Either Sony Rushes out PS4 or there would so much security measures that would kill us genuine gamers or Sony would pack up and leave the console scene totaly so that Microsoft can enjoy Monopoly:cry:

Vari3ty

You do remember that Nintendo's still in it, right? :? And it could mean we'd get to see a Dreamcast 2... :D DOWN WITH SONY!!

What? No way, I love Sony. I really hope there is a PS4, and to be honest I'd love to see some more console makers get into the mix. More competition = better products for all of us to enjoy.

Though I must admit I would be VERY interested if Nintendo decided to release a console next gen that could compete with Microsoft and Sony's offerings on a technical scale.

There's also the logical extreme of when there are too many products that then don't get enough attention among either. If you remember the pre-crash days of video gaming, there were like 70 something pong consoles, and all sorts of other companies that tried to make their own dedicated consoles and stuff to hook up to a TV. Much like how there were so many of those Tiger LCD handheld games and knock-offs. Personally I'd rather see Sega come back into the hardware market, now that they've been doing as solid as they have. Especially since it was Sony's smear campaign that helped question the reliability of Sega's last console. hell, it was even on CNN news at the time, which is odd because th at kinda stuff is something they'd never really bother cover.

I have ME2 on PC, and my only regret was that I didn't get ME1 on PC as well... currently have it on 360. For anyone who can only play it on ps3, it's worth getting. You really get sucked in to its world, and it just begs to be explored.

And you know this how? Just look at the numbers... Even Microsoft admits that they estimate no more than 5% of all xboxes sold have had some kind of modification, of which the JTAG is a small share of that. Even now, it's not like you can just buy a new 360 anymore and JTAG it, because they're not coming out with a vulnerable version of their dashboards anymore. With the Wii, the number of people that have Homebrew channel installed was only up to 3 million unique users, which means at worst that's about 3% of all Wii consoles sold that are modded. Not many people go t hrough the trouble, or are savvy enough, to hack their consoles so directly.

Funny thing is, when the slim came out, there were measurable performance differences on various tasks, because the sharply revised variance of the chips between the old and new console meant that certain bits of code would also process differently too. In short, some tasks were faster on the slim, and some a lot slower at the slim's launch. No doubt Sony has paid attention to addressing that in firmware updates as well... Just would wish that Sony would be a lot more forthcoming about what's IN a firmware update besides giving vague descriptions or only up-talking about new features they put in. Ideally I'd wish they would have a section in their release notes specifically about "known issues" with firmware releases.

I wouldn't particularly rule it out, either. As long as Sony continues to use that ass-tastic thermal paste and glop it all over the chips like they did on my phat 60gig model, I would expect it to happen eventually.

At least for the phat models, it's reported that APS-231 will physically support all existing phat models of PS3. it's also the quietest and most efficient of the power supplies that weer supplied for PS3's, so while it might not be much, running an APS-231 would indeed help your ps3 run a bit cooler, but mostly greener. :)

They also removed OtherOS, which, if you've been keeping track, is one of th reasons that geohot and groups like fail0verflow never really bothered to hack the ps3... because they could already run their own code, in an approved environment, on the ps3. Removing it first with the slim model, and then retroactively through an update, was what pissed off these groups, and got them motivated to hack the ps3. prior to that, the only real "hacking" done, was in an attempt to un-neuter the OtherOS's access to hardware through the hypervisor. But what fail0verflow found in their efforts, is that GameOS and OtherOS were treated equally by the Hypervisor. As far as the HV was concerned, the two were different VM's to run; the only difference was permissions. That is why fail0verflow is now working on what they call AsbestOS - it will start as a replacement for OtherOS, that also takes over booting from GameOS. So at first, it will be to allow booting into Linux, with full 3D Acceleration, on any PS3 - including the slim. After that is all set and working, they were then going to work on a bootloader that would allow users to dual-boot between GameOS and AsbestOS, just like how the ps3 previously supported dualbooting of GameOS and OtherOS.
