I wanted to get it; then I saw this. It's an honest list of things that make F3 terrible. And given what my friend who owns the game has told me, it's not far off the mark.

Depends on your taste ,Civ 5 is TBS while Settlers 7 is RTS. Both however have similar ways to win; whereas Civ 5 has science, culture, military and score to win the game, Settles 7 has victory points, research or military. I think of Settlers 7 like a RTS equivalent of Civ 5 if not less complex. If you can get past the DRM issues Settlers 7 is a fun game to play.
