INTRO - BACKGROUND
I've been playing games since 1999, when I received my first console, PlayStation and my first game, Tekken 2. PlayStation is responsible for my love for games, Tekken for my love for fighting games. I later graduated to a PS2 and after a lot of delay I played Final Fantasy X, which is responsible for my love for my favorite game genre, jRPGs. I dont own a PS3, PSP, Vita or a gaming PC not because I dont want to, believe me I do, I just cant buy them, yet I keep following gaming news because I love the games. I get excited when a new Tekken, Final Fantasy, a familiar IP or a new interesting are announced and I follow them until they get a review and wish someday Ill play it.
There is nothing that gets me more excited than game news, so when E3 comes up I get a warm, jolly feeling. When GameSpot introduced the E3 LiveCam (http://www.gamespot.com/e3/livecam-tour-day-2/) I was so happy, I always wished I could go to E3 and this was the closest I would probably get.
So even though this is probably only be read by friends of mine who I sent an e-mail to, I dont care because I really enjoyed doing it, sharing my excitement for these trailers, for these magical windows, for these realities that makes me dream that are games with my friends is just awesome.
XBOX ONE VS PLAYSTATION 4
The Xbox One (thats not confusing at all /sarcasm) is the new console from Microsoft, it will cost $499 in the U.S.A. and 499 Euros in Europe.
The console needs to connect by braodband to the internet every 24 hours for anti-piracy, anti-sharing checks, meaning if you lose connection for more than 24 hours you wont be able to play a game you bought, even if its the offline single player mode of said game. So if you move to another house, you wont be able to play because you dont have an internet connection, if you go on a long vacation and want to bring your console, you can't because it wont work without internet.
"Because Xbox One games have to activate with the cloud and the console has to check in every 24 hours, the system can only have its full functionality in regions where these are supported" - 4 Player Network. So it won't be avaliable in Portugal (<-- my country) or Japan. See the countries it's avaliable to here: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/pre-order-xbox-one/disclaimer
Brad from a 4PlayerPodcast brought up another issue: Two years ago hackers shut down PlayStation Network for two months, if that happens with Xbox Live you wont be able to play any game. And this type of product is so hostile to consumers that hacktivists (activism through hacking) will specially try to shut it down just to show that this type of product is evil.
If you get your account banned you wont be able to play any of your games, any. You effectively dont own the games you buy.
You can only play your games or a persons game in a group of 10 people you selected, your game will be locked to that console, so goodbye used games. That choice is left to game publishers but it is there and I bet EA and CAPCOM will do it. EA got known for their always online SimCity fiasco and CAPCOM by their on disc DLCs.
The XBox One will enable sharing gameplay by twitch.tv. It has a BluRay drive. The BluRay was created by Sony, so Microdsoft is paying something to Sony to use it.
I honestly don't like the XBox One case/box design. The console will come with Kinect and requires it to function. Here it is:
The PlayStation 4 is the new console from Sony, it will cost $499/499 Euros.
"Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation 4 will not require an online check-in and that Sony will impose no restrictions on trading in disc-based games." - GameSpot. The console will also be region free meaning you can import one from Japan, US or Europe because it will play all games from the different regions.
Sony even took a stab to Microsoft with rejoice from the audience:
Of course game publishers can still have some control, the same way they have on PS3 with online passes and other stuff.
Unfortunetly to play online you will have to pay, when in the PS3 was free, but I remind you that you always had to pay with the XBox 360. It still sucks though, you aare already paying for an internet connection you shouldn't have to pay for using it to play games, you don't on the PC.
The PS4 will enable sharing gameplay by ustream.tv
I honestly don't like the design of the PlaySattion 4 case/box all that much. Here it is:
That is why I think Sony won E3, that is why I think PlayStation already won this generation, unless Microsoft backs up. So talk with your wallet and buy the product that respects you as a consumer.
