I went to SunnyCon two weeks ago and two weeks later the weekend that's just been went to another convention which was NERG (North East Retro Gaming) this was their second year organising this weekend. Went to NERG last year and really enjoyed every moment on its retro gaming, all of the arcade machines and pinball machines were all free-to-play meaning that you didn't need any money to play any of the machines. You would only have to pay for either a day ticket or a weekend ticket to enter and to play some classic games.
There was a cosplay contest on the Saturday and came of Abe (Oddworld Abe's Oddysee) and one of the dealers I've bumped into called Gotcha Geek On was selling Oddworld pins and I just had to buy a SoulStorm Brew pin since Abe's Exoddus is my favourite Oddworld game in the series. I am looking forward to Oddworld: New N Tasty this month which is released on my birthday which is July 22nd which makes it more awesome. There were other cosplayers at the weekend from Lollipop Chainsaw, Super Mario and Wreck-It Ralph. Played quite a few of the arcade machines there were there including Star Wars Trilogy Arcade, Space Harrier, Tron, Mortal Kombat II, Pac Man and even Galaga. More than 60 pinball machines were at the event from ACDC, Hook, Back to the Future and Starship Troopers, plus 60 consoles were also playable as well with a little history brief about each of the systems from the Atari 2600, Sega Genesis and a few of the consoles that were only released in China.
I even won the Cosplay Contest on the Saturday winning £250 cash including a cool glass cup, wasn't specting to win the contest but this was a big surprise for me. Even bought a few retro games myself like Driver, Final Fantasy Tactics and managed to pick up a copy of Heart of Darkness (PS1) because I know that Game Grumps are doing a video play-through on the game itself and pretty much the reason why I bought it since I like the 2D styled games and of course it's puzzles that are added. Plus managed to buy myself a Nintendo GameCube for £10 with a controller all I need now is a memory card and the power cable for it, before going to NERG a few days ago managed to find a copy of Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker for £2.99 in a Charity shop and the disc only had finger prints on both discs and this did came with Ocarina of Time never played both games. When I saw a GameCube at that price it was easily clear that I needed to play both games since I've missed out on both games when I was younger; and of course my friends have highly recommended me to play both games if I ever get the chance.
I would admit I did spot a few machines that were at NERG last year and made an appearance again this year and of course there was no House of the Dead II at the event which was one of my favourite arcade games whenever I went on holiday somewhere in Spain either during the day or even before going on a night out drinking the last time I've played it was at Newcastle Film & Comic-Con back in March. I did have a fun weekend overall and enjoyed every moment of the event with my friends and talking about how awesome it was.
Few more photos from the weekend and what games I've played-
