In the end, you won't find any game in the world that didn't receive any criticism, but the problem comes when there is a game that has been enjoyed by the majority of the players, and a criticizer comes out of nowhere trying to grab attention :)

I can give you an example of someone I know who played FF13. He doesn't like reading, so when the in-battle tutorials were appearing, he was just skipping them, and when he died during one of the battles because he didn't know what a Paradigm shift is, he ended up giving negative comments on the game, even though he skipped its tutorial when it was first offered :P

Another example on the same person, is when he skipped the Eidolon tutorial when he obtained Odin. He summoned him, but pressed the square button before odin launched his first attack, during Gestalt mode, he had no idea what was going on. Later on, he said "I don't understand how this eidolon system works".

So overall yes, if someone wants to learn how to play a game without reading anything, final fantasy is not for them :)

For me, I would say the story can keep me going through, it was a tough decision between this and the gameplay, but I remember that the reason why I continued playing FFX-2 was mainly to understand what happens next in the story. I didn't like the characters, the gameplay or many other things in that game, the only thing that kept giving me a reason to keep playing until the end was the story, so I guess I would go for that :)

I thought about putting 6 mandatory characters and 2 optional characters like it was with Yuffie and Vincent in FF7. This way, people who only want to enjoy the game and don't care much about the story can play with the 6 characters straight to the end, whereas people who want to experience everything that the game has, then they can get the other 2 to make them 8 characters total.

We don't know how many numbered FFs will be released on the current generation consoles, but if they are planning to release FF15 on the PS3 then......Could be seen sometime in 2013 and "In case" they are planning to make a remake of FFVII at a certain point, would 2017 be a good year for it? I mean by that time the consoles of course will be more improved than they are today and it's exactly 20 years after the release of the original FF7.

I just put some mix of guesses and dreams all together ;)

It's not a gameplay trailer, just some unclear screenshots of it.

They did show some gameplay footages of FF Versus XIII at this year's TGS show but it was kept private and away from the public's eyes, in which they said that the main reason why they brought this trailer was to let people know that the project is still alive and that the game is still in development.

Source: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Versus_XIII

Check the "Development" section. I think that many of the staff from FF XIII will shift to Versus XIII as the japanese version is near its release and also the english version won't be needing much of work as much as the japanese version did since it's mostly going to involve translations. So hopefully we will get to see some versus XIII updates more often once FF XIII is released on both languages.
