Considering how Valve develops games (either in a decade or rushed cash grabs/rushed incomplete concepts), I wouldn't be surprised if they made HL 2 Episode 3 on Source 2 and waited for Source 3 to make HL 3. Whatever the case, there will be a new HL on this new engine, hopefully they'll also focus on their better series like a sequel to the close to perfection Portal 2.DanielDust

What games are "rushed cash grabs/rushed incomplete concepts?"

[QUOTE="yellosnolvr"]as a die hard battlefield fan, i do not approve of this. especially so soon.Wasdie

So, you wouldn't approve of any Battlefield games since 2005, considering there has been one made by the same teams every year since Vietnam and DLC content inbetween. Just because they didn't work on a PC version of Bad Comapny and BF1943, doesn't mean they set aside developers to work on the PC version of BF3 for all of those years.

  • 2004 - BF: Vietnam
  • 2005 - BF2
  • 2006 - BF 2142
  • 2008 - Bad Company (biggest break inbetween BF games, content for BF 2142 was still made in 2007)
  • 2009 - BF 1943
  • 2010 - BC2 (and the vietnam content pack came out in late 2010)
  • 2011 - BF3
  • 2013 - BF3 (rumored)

Remember, just because they didn't appear on the PC doesn't mean the team hasn't been putting out yearly release and/or content since 2004. I didn't even mention the DLC for BF2 or BF3. It doesn't matter the label they decide to name their game either. They also sqeezed in Mirror's Edge in 2008.

I don't know how you can be disappointed. This is how DICE operates and has operated since pretty much BF1942.

This is what gaming is now and I like it. No more waiting for 3-4 years for another one, always more content to play. Games only truely had the replayablity that they used to have when we didn't have a new game every few weeks to play. Now we get a game worthy of our time coming out at least monthly. Why keep going back to the old when we constantly have new stuff to play? That, and I finally have a job and money where I can afford more games than when I was a kid, I don't have to milk a game for every ounce of gameplay I can sqeeze out of it.

You are one delusional fellow. Happy to see you like spending your money on poorly constructed military shooters that were made for the purpose of suckering people like you into believing they are worthy of a full-price purchase. Now we know who has been funding this mentality in the industry as of late. Thanks bud.

I played it during the beta for a few weeks and quickly realized how poorly designed the game is. You'll understand what I mean when you start realizing that bots are more powerful than pros in all parts of the game. If anyone wants to devote their time to getting good at a game, don't play this. Play DOTA or LoL instead.

[QUOTE="seanmcloughlin"]

Making it Infantry only does NOT make BF3 suddenly CoD. They play completely differently.

And this looks great. Get into some fun messy situations on those maps

SF_KiLLaMaN

Please enlighten me to how they play differently. They're the same unrealistic-type shooters, BF3 just feels different because it has a different focus and is on a much larger scale. This expansion pack will play a lot like CoD. Although i'd imagine BF3 will be worse because of the stupid flash light and laser that always seems to hit your guy right in the eyes, even though there is like a .01% chance that would ever happen during firefight.

I completely agree with all of your statements so far. You've basically summed up my feelings towards this new expansion completely. To all the people saying how this map makes BF3 similar to CoD, if you watched the video you'd see that he was basically running in circles looking for people to kill which is based on the circular, small map design. Hence the similarity to Call of Duty games. Also, not one of you people defending this expansion has provided any explanation as to why you think this expansion doesn't make BF3 incredibly similar to CoD in terms of its gameplay. I'm genuinely curious what your explanation is to that.

My response in the post above this one was to foxhound_fox who said:

"Your fault for reading an article discussing it.

Honestly, if people want to avoid spoilers, they should just get off the internet, because it WILL spoil something for everyone eventually.

And honestly, I spoiled the ending for myself, and yet know nothing about the rest of the game. That is just how completely unrelated it is to the game."

I did NOT read the article, do you honestly think I would have avoided the ending if I read the first article that discussed Mass Effect 3? Spoilers ARE EVERYWHERE for that retarded game. The spoiler is in the article description, right below the title, clear as day for anyone skimming the homepage of Gamespot. Nice try at a retort though.

Also, I don't hate DRM, I hate hypocrites that give these kind of interviews for the naive and ignorant like many in this thread here ("but we don't care about piracy and DRM, it doesn't affect us" "OMG burn it with fire, find all the pirates, ask 1K € from them rawr" "but we're sorry, we meant what we initially said ^__^")

DanielDust

I see your point about CDP being arbitrary in regards to their stance on DRM and I also was confused about what they were thinking when they decided to send threat letters to people pirating their game. However, they never followed through and realized the error in their ways. I think the point you should take away from this is that they are one of the only developers/publishers out there that is openly saying that they no longer wish to use DRM on any future games. That's a big step forward for PC gaming and the video game industry in general and for that they deserve some praise.

I'm also confused about how you think they answer to some higher authority. They are their own publisher unless they sign with someone in the future. Thus, they can decide if their games will have DRM or not. And by the way, The Witcher 2 removed it's DRM almost immediately after it was released.
