No one's withholding anything - id didn't distribute review copies to journalists prior to launch for some reason. The journo's got the game the same day everyone else did, and since it takes time to review a game, DOOM's getting delayed.
Now, why would id withhold review copies is an interesting question indeed, but I got it on day one, and so far it's off the hook. The single player at least. The Glory Kill system doesn't bother me at all. On the contrary, it actually helps keep the action going - it heals you up, so you don't have to run off in the middle of the fight to find a medkit.
Man, it's the first time a Final Fantasy title sounds even remotely interesting to me, and they **** this one up.
Would be cool if the managed to port it to the PC, while simultaneously taking care of those ****-ups (they do seem to be of the kind that can be fixed, given a bit of time and critical thinking)
I once played on a half populated, 2000 ticket, 48 player server with fast vehicle respawns. There were like, 20 guys in total, and it took us about 4 hours to bring the ticket count to zero. At around 50 tickets the damn server crashed. I lost something like 30k points (game score, no awards counted) and three tank level-ups.

They're shooters, that play from a first-person perspective, they're FPS. Just because they're they're not your favorite kind of FPS doesn't make it any less true...
@brigasm03 The appeal in CoD is that it's everyone's game. Anyone can play it, and anyone can enjoy it from minute 1.
The BF franchise, while being an objectively better FPS than CoD, is more of a niche game. It takes longer to master, it takes quite some while until you actually start having fun, and the game clearly favors teamplay, so starting BF3 to just burn half an hour of your free time, to scratch that itch, is arguably not as gratifying as doing the same thing with CoD.
BF3 is a heavier game, t'swhat I'm sayin'. It takes more dedication and time as a hobby. So I agree with those people who say that CoD and BF are not direct competitors. Both are FPS games, but the experience is so different that there's hardly any point in comparing them.
