I have seen alot on this lately and i'd just like to try and show what most Pc gamers mean when they claim PC has higher standards. Also it should show why 2 versions getting the same score aren't always equal.

I's just like to say this is not an elitist hermit thread, just hoping it explains this concept.

Ok, I'd like to use 2 recent reviews, Fallout 3 and Farcry 2. Both these versions scored equal on PC and 360. PC gamers claim they have the better version of both yet 360 gamers say no, they scored the same so are the same......well, lets just look at that claim for a moment.

Lets just imagine the PC version of these games was 100% identical to the 360 version. No differences at all. Lets imagine the Pc version had a maximum res of 720p, no graphics options(it ran at the level the 360 does), no AF and little AA. No dedicated servers for online play (if they support online). Lets imagine it only had the option for one control methos, in this case a pad. Lets imagine they played at around 30fps on every machine and had fps problems now and then. Lets imagine they had 0% chance of any mod support at all. Taking all these things into consideration do you really think the PC version would have still scored as high as the 360 version? No, it wouldn't. Even though both version would be 100% identical the PC version would be regarded as a total mess.

You see, every game is reviewed in relation to the platform it is on. All the above make a game better yet on Pc are standard. This means they won't affect the score. I'm not saying those playing the PC version will get a better experience as such, both versions are great, both versions provide the same gameplay and the same experince. PC just has more to offer overall.

Now, i know i will be flames as a PC elitist, that is not what this thread is about, i'm just trying to explain why PC gamers often make this claim. Thanks for reading.

So, according to that ignorance, every game should be scored accoding to their potential, and we should assume that the PC version of the game is always running on the super-computer at Langley.

Obviously the PC version has higher potential. However, we're not talking about potential here. While the PC might be the best "version" it is not necessarily the best "choice" for most gamers.

If I wanted to play Fallout 3, I cound run out to the store, drop 250 bucks, and be home playing it, in 10 minutes.

If I wanted to play Falllout 3 like I wanted to on the PC, I would have to ugrade potentially upgrade my computer, run an hdmi cable, that I would have to buy, to my HDTV, configure my 360 controller to run via my PC, and install the game.

That's the problem with the generally accepted assumptions of PC superiority. You're always talking about potential with no thought whatsoever to convinience and accessibility.

Yes, if I were you, the PC version might be the best choice for me...but I'm me...and most of us, like me, the best, or at least most convinient option is the 360 version.

Not to mention the 360 exclusive DLC, or the securom DRM that fallout 3 ruins your 1000 dollar gaming rig with.

Here's why the 360 and PC versions scored the same:

All of the options on the PC version, you mentioned, don't make or break the game. They barely matter. The game runs at a nice steady clip on the 360, and a standard gaming PC. What the PC version has is:

1. Lack of convinience verses smoother framerate and higher resolution depending on the rig(but again, I've broken my rule already, as the game also has the potnetial to not run on some PC's or run poorly, a negative the 360 version does not). Running the same on all consoles is not always a negative.

and

2. Eventual usermods verses eventual DLC, neither of which matter at launch, or at the time of the review.

3. A spyware virus that will slow down your computer permanently verses 30 fps.

I always hear about the pros of PC, but the truth is, if the PC was put under the same scrutiany fanboys of the 360 or PS3 put on each others console, its flaws would also become apparent. Acting like PC gaming is the best thing since sliced bread, is Bull. Trust me, I've been a PC gamer all my life.

Well, the PC version has securom, so I guess it depends on how much you care about DRM. I'm personally getting the 360 version. I'll be way done with it before the user mods come out.

That said, I have the baddest ass PC rig on the planet, so I guess if I want to play anything on it, I better just go ahead and accept securom.

[QUOTE="famicommander"]Patapon 2, Loco Roco 2, Kingdom Hearts, Star Ocean, and Phantasy Star Portable will keep me busy for quite some time.qewrewq

There's also FF:Dissidia, it looked really good from the trailer.

That's true, there appear to be a few games missing from this list, probably the ones without release dates.

However, my point still holds true, lol.

The PSP is in a major game draught. It started last year, and after God of War it has just...well it's not getting a lot of 3rd party software like it used to.

That list is an embarassment compared to the DS list of "games with release dates."

The PSP just isn't getting a lot of software. :(

http://www.gamestop.com/browse/search.aspx?Ns=Sort_ETA|0&N=5+136

Is that the complete list, or are there some missing? I'm aware that a few games from Japan will eventually arrive on the PSP, but if this is the gaming lineup for the PSP, then compared to the DS, or....even the PS2, that is a TERRIBLE list.

Does anyone contend that the list is good?

I don't see how they could.

Just look at the lists for competing systems.

Am I cherrypicking a bad time for the PSP?

What's up with the software? Are developers stopping support for the console?

Does Sony have a new handheld planned and only the developers know about it?

Call me crazy, but I think that most people who criticize these games are PSP owners. They hate the DS and Nintendo, and when Nintendo gets games like this, that sell really well and review with 9/10s from gamespot, they get envious. The upcoming PSP lineup, afterall, is terrible. The PSP is in a virtual gaming draught.

So, to marginalize these games to themselves and others, and really any big DS release, they pretend that the mere existance of this AAA exclusive offends them because of the talking point, "It's been released too many times." Even though it is clear that this games are excellently updated (9.0 from gamespot) and has quite a following(it'll probably sell more than any 2 PSP games).

The fact of the matter is, if these PSP "fanboys" found out that Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy IV or VII were being remade on their, frankly, sucky gaming console, they would just be overjoyed, and I guarntee you, some of the same posters in this topic would be singing it to the rooftops.

Console only owners do the same thing. They pretend there are no handheld games worth playing, generalizing in order to justify what they are missing out on. Phoenix Wright, Elite Beat Agents, The World Ends With You, and Dragonquest IX don't matter to them, but if those games were on the PS3 they would be highly touted by these fanboys.

http://www.gamestop.com/browse/search.aspx?Ns=Sort_ETA|0&N=5+136

That is the PSP upcoming games list. It's a joke. It's terrible, and the PSP is in a severe gaming drout.

The DS on the otherhand is flourishing, getting some of the biggest franchises on the little Nintendo machine, like Dragonquest and GTA, now that it is certain which machine is the moneymaker and which is not.

You falsely complain about Square-Enix because you are envious of their support of the DS, and they seek to marginalize those game, because they "abandoned sony."

Well, I say "boo hoo" go cry to Sony for not making a machine that people buy software for. Stop trying to mindfreak yourself and accept the fact that you bought the wrong console, backed the wrong company, and are now suffering from cognitive dissonance.

Playing FFIV on a PC via piracy, that is a straight port of a game from 15 years ago...sucks. Playing the DS is awesome. Particularly when you're playing a AAAe. Let's not kid ourselves here and pretend like we're talking about anything besides "I wish this was on the PSP," because we aren't.

This isn't the official Famitsu scores. This is the Xbox 360 branch.

The official scores, which already mean very little, are different. For instance, in Famitsu magazine, Soul Calibur 4 scored 9/9/9/8 - 35/40

One point higher.

Vesperia hasn't been reviewed yet.

360 version looks way better. PS3 version looks like the characters aren't connected to the background, and the background itself on the PS3, particularly the floor, look horrible. Reminds me of the graphics they use in the on-rail shooter arcade cabinets. The 360 version seems to blend the characters together with their background, adding the extra layer on purpose. I imagine in motion the 360 version looks very natural while the PS3 version looks like an arcade cabinet of the 360 version due to the nature of the PS3 hardware.

One thing is clear. Anyone who thinks the PS3 has a graphical advantage over the 360 is kidding themselves. It ranges from barely noticable to non-existant.
