So far, it's definitely my favourite new show this season. Having seen the first two episodes, I love how they mix comedy and drama almost seamlessly. It's all very silly, but it's great at the same time since it never takes itself seriously. Has anyone else checked it out?

Gotta admit, you've improved a heck of a lot since your first reviews. And you're pumping them out quite often, too.

I'll like to recommend honestgamer and EmPonesix. They won several ReviewSpotting issues, so I guess they should deserve an emblem even if they don't care too much about it...IonescoF
Agreed, Honestgamer is more than worthy of the emblem, too.

Beaten into submission is about right. Like I said at length in my last post, direct e-mails, comments to Jeff's blog, canceled my subscription, played the guess which thread you're supposed to post in now game, posted in this thread, never seemed to get noticed. It should have been pretty obvious when I didnt even get a "thank you for your comments" after a direct e-mail or a "Please don't leave or at least let us know why your leaving" after canceling my account how important my business is to gamespot. I've been treated pretty badly by some companies but they've at least pretended to try and correct issues.Mossad

I think you expect too much. Either that, or you're just being very picky. Fair enough that you don't like the changes. Nothing against that.

Look at the outrage. Look at how many people commented on Jeff's blog. Think of all the people who feel the same but aren't as vocal enough to post their thoughts in public. Can you guess how many people have probably complained to GameSpot via e-mails? Do you know how much manpower they have to read and respond every single e-mail? The e-mail's not just for complaints. I imagine they're being completely overwhelmed right now.

I get it that you're pissed off. But it sounds like you want to wage war against GameSpot. If you want to leave, just leave. No scene needs to be made.

And when you do get a response, I wouldn't expect a "Please don't leave!" Begging? No company to my knowledge has resorted to begging.

I suggest trying to do that later. Maybe it's just a little bug.IonescoF

I just tested and it worked for me. Are you able to make any changes save? try changing the description_Sam_

Thanks for your responses. It still doesn't work. I can change the description just fine, but not the association; very unusual. I also tried associating with different games as a test, but no luck.

I'm guessing that the only option left is to delete it and upload it again, but I think I'm too lazy to do that. :P

It's quite trivial, but I wanted to bring this up nonetheless.

I recently uploaded a gameplay video of Guitar Hero: Rocks the 80s, yet I can't seem to associate the video with the game itself (and make it appear in the relevant gamespaces). It has worked everytime in the past with my other videos, but this time, it doesn't seem to want to work. I go to "Edit this video" and search and click on the right game from the list, but when I click on "Save changes", nothing happens.

Is there something I'm doing wrong, or is this a little bug? Thanks for your time.

So now that I've had some time to experience the new review system, here's my feedback.

  • The score in .5 increments instead of .1 makes the scores more definitive, but distinguishing between 3 games that all got, say, 8.5 is harder. Hence, I don't like this .5 system.
  • The loss of the 5 categories (gameplay, graphics, sound, etc.) makes it hard to figure out which games excel or fail in each of those categories. This is a devastating loss. To me, gamespot reviews are not really any more useful now than many other game websites. I'm lazy, I don't want to have to read through every review to determine how games rank in each of these categories!!

I completely understand your feelings towards the loss of the component scores. Part of me kinda misses that, too (glad the formula's gone, though). However, I don't quite get your "distinguishing between three games that got 8.5 point". That's the idea of the main body of the review -- so you can make your own decision. The component scores are probably handy, too, (as are now the badges) but it's the text itself that should push you towards one game and not another. You're not going to pick a game that scored 8.7 over an 8.4 based on their scores with the old scoring system, are you? Or even a 8.8 versus an 8.3?

So you're saying the reason why you read GameSpot's reviews in the first place is because of their scoring system? Huh?

I figure the review text is the most important part...

Your also right that I'm not going to say there is a difference between an 8.2 and an 8.3. Thats the way it should be. the scores should be such that if a game falls a point one way or another it isnt a huge deal. With the .5 demarcations, that isnt true. If a game is between two scores, say an 8.5 and a 9.0, its a big fall in either direction. Too far if you ask me. For example, lets say you have two games. One that would have scored an 8.7 and one that would have scored an 8.8 under the old system. We are both in agreement that they recieved essentially the same score. Under the new system, those two games would score an 8.5 and a 9.0. Those values indicate very very different levels of quality which I think most everyone, both proponents and opponents of the new system, would agree. It works the other way too. One game that would have scored say an 8.3 and one that would have scored an 8.7 would now get the exact same score of 8.5. The new primary scoring system simply has too much uncertainty. You no long know quite what you're getting. Two games may have gotten the same score but have noticably different levels of quality.

You've raised some good points. Unfortunately, I don't have too much time, so I'll have to address this one paragraph.

With your 8.7 and 8.8 example, how would you know if the 8.8 would be rounded up to a 9.0? What an 8.8 essentially tells us (or me) is that "it's nearly a 9...we can almost give this an Editor's Choice award". It sounds like it could score an 8.5, too, along with the 8.7.

It's the same with 8.3 and 8.7. Maybe the 8.3 doesn't quite reach the 8.5 requirements.

That's the great thing about the .5 increments, in my opinion: we get definitive scores that aren't dictated by a formula. If the 8.8 (let's call it "Game A") is rounded down to an 8.5 along with the 8.7 (Game B), we know that both games are very similar in quality. If the 8.8 game (Game A), though, is rounded up to 9.0, we know that GameSpot is telling us "this game is definitely superior to Game B". Likewise with the second example. If the 8.3 is rounded down to 8.0, it's clear you'd be better off checking out the 8.7. If the 8.3 is rounded up, we should give the games more thought.

There's less confusion over what the editors really think, and I think that's a plus.
