I would like to see Nintendo abandon hardware and become a third-party developer, but I also want Sony and Microsoft to do the same. Is there a need for home consoles to exist when there are PCs, tablets, and smartphones that are not closed platforms like consoles?

Yes to the need for consoles. Standardized systems are beneficial to the industry. I know that traditional console gamers and hardcore fanboys would hate the notion of each company releasing an equally capable system that can play any game but there is no benefit to the customer in having multiple systems that can practically do the same thing.

I will disagree here but maybe I am misunderstanding you. I agree that exclusives should be gone but competition is what keeps hardware so advanced if that matters to you. Also competition is what makes games so great. It even keeps the old school games fresh because we see a lot of remakes and refreshes of the most popular games.

How would a standardized system even work? Who would determine the specs, size of unit, the bigger, the more power fits in, what if it's portable like the switch or steam handheld, how do you work all of that out? Why don't they have standardized cars if all cars do the same thing, get you from A to B?

@osan0: I feel like the price difference very much depends on which AIB card you are looking at, but I would argue that the price difference is still more around the $200-$250 mark (which at that point, harder to choose between the two).

For example, one of the cheaper 7900 XTX (Sapphire Pulse) can be had for $900 (and recently you could even get an XFX or an Asrock variant, granted I would probably avoid the Asrock one, for 860ish). On the 4080 side the cheapest ones are still in the 1100-1150 range (Zotac and PNY). I know this just cause I had the same debate (4080 vs 7900), decided to go with 7900 due to better raster performance (and, to a lesser extent, to not support Nvidia and their overpricing practices, this is my first AMD card ever tbh). I think with a $100 difference the choice is less clear (raster vs DLSS and RT), but at 200+ I think the 7900 still makes more sense (granted I may be biased).

I agree with you. If they were both priced the same, then one could argue the differences in VRAM vs RT and DLSS vs FSR, however with massive price differences, they don't directly compare.

I will add that some consumers might want to look at the 7900 XT which still has 20GB VRAM because those are going for around $700 on sale. That's not a hype price, you can find them for around that on a deal. That is a damn good price point if you don't mind losing some performance and VRAM to the XTX.

So they are doing what Nvidia has done. Full circle.🤔

Not quite. No one seems to notice that Nvidia GPUs can use FSR in all of those games. Nvidia allows AMD to implement a feature that works on Nvidia GPUs and shows that their solution is better but it hides or you have to figure out yourself that the reason is because it's tailored specific for Nvidia GPUs. The only thing AMD is blocking is for a game they pay for, they don't want the developer to implement a feature that can only be used on Nvidia GPUs, DLSS.

This would be outrageous if FSR only worked on AMD GPUs as DLSS only works on Nvidia GPUs.

In the future when FSR3 is released, if AMD goes the route of making it more comparable to DLSS in quality and it only works on AMD GPUS, I wonder how many of those Nvidia games would support FSR3 that only works on AMD GPUs.

Is this some kind of a joke? Have you seen the original gameplay demo they showed? This was pre covid, and THAT WAS WHAT THEY CONSIDERED AS ready to ship😂This company is messed up in the head.

Don't split hairs with me, it was covid and you know it. This is just propaganda to stop the Activision deal from going through which has the cows on damage control gone wild.

Nice cope mechanism you got there. You should borrow some of it to other desperate lems we have on SW.

Covid affected all software development but somehow it didn't touch 343 studios, right?

I actually enjoyed Halo infinite at launch and I'm not even into Halo games. I am more into open world RPGs. I love the Fallout and Elder Scrolls series. I am currently playing Medieval Dynasty and it's pretty good.

But Halo was good enough for me that after I finished it I was hungry for the same type of game so I played through Far Cry 5 and loved it. Then I went to Far cry 3 and finished that. I am half way through Far Cry 4 and also played a little Far Cry 6. All of that because I enjoyed Halo Infinite so much. And it was free with GamePass.

What was the excuse for Halo 4, MCC and Halo 5? Covid2012, covid2014 and covid2015?🤭Stop with your cope. 343i is talentless bunch of worthless developers that have been fumbling around for over 10 years. Be ready to blame their next failed project on something else (covid2025?), cuz you can be certain that it'll be shit.

What was wrong with Halo 4 and 5? I'm not a Halo guy so I didn't even play them to be honest. The MCC was rough at release because of the underpowered Xbox but I think they fixed it mostly for the X1X and certainly for the Series X. I played it only a little because again, I'm not into Halo and it ran great for the little I played it. I have the Series X btw.

Btw can we all agree that MS should just sell the Halo IP to Sony at this point? They have CoD, and they're obviously incapable of evolving the series into what it should be. Sony has Bungie, and going by Destiny's gunplay, you know damn well they haven't lost that Bungie feel when it comes to shooters.

What would be the point, I thought all PS5 consoles are shipping with high end gaming PCs and Halo gets ported to PC, no?

What about covid, do you think that had anything to do Halo infinite's development issues?

Whether this detail is true or not, the following remains true

  • Halo Infinite was delayed 1 year
  • Halo Infinite was released incomplete despite the delay
  • Forge was delayed another 9 months
  • Co-op, a core feature in Halo was also delayed 9 months
  • Halo Infinite is the worst valued Halo game that has ever been released
  • Ray tracing is still missing in action

Sounds like mismanagement to me. Not sure how and why because despite my dislike to Halo 4 and 5, they were complete. Who is responsible for this recent mess? 🤷🏽‍♀️

And what planet were you on that you don't know about covid? Why do you think it had nothing to do with this?

All this garbage is propaganda against the Activision deal.

Don’t have an HBO subscription and not really planning on getting one anytime soon. May be something I pick up on blu-ray at a discount then again maybe not. Don’t really have all that strong of an affinity for the franchise.

You're lucky. I would throw up all over the place if I was exposed to that disgusting trash.
