The start of my SNES collection!

Man it's awesome to be playing these old school gems again!

The early 90s was truely an amazing time for games. There were so many great RPGs, platformers, shumps, and beat-em-ups on the Super Nintendo, NES and Genesis during that time. When I was a kid I had no clue that I was playing some of the games that would later be considered some of the greatest titles ever made.

Recently I went on a hunt to find some of the games I planned on starting my collection with. I went around to almost every pawn shop and retro game store in my city that had SNES games. It's too bad they weren't the ones I was looking for. Everywhere I looked there were no Donkey Kongs, Yoshi's Islands, or Final Fantasies. By that point I had given up the search so I ended up picking up Batman Returns at a pawn shop for cheap just to have something to play...

...So I get home pop Batman Returns into my SNES and the game worked! There was only one problem, every button I tried pressing wouldn't start up the game.  It turns out the one controller I had was busted too so all I could do was keep watching the opening cinematics of the game. At that point I'd had enough, so I went on ebay and ordered a SNES replica controller for about 8 bucks with shipping.

With my SNES finally up and running, I've ended up accumulated a decent collection in the weeks since my last blog.

Here's the games I've got for far:

I'm already 39% in DKC2 and about level 12 in Sercret Of Evermore. UN Squadron just arrived in the mail today so I gotta get back to playing it!

Kicking it retro-style!

Recently I went digging through my closet and dusted off my one of my old pals...

My original SNS-001 model Super Nintendo.

The power chord I had was broke... so today I just went and picked up this baby for 10 bucks:

Tested it and it works. :D

Now all I need are some games. I'd like to relive my childhood by playing some of best greats the SNES had.

I've been browsing on eBay and some of the ones I want like FFVI are sporting a hefty pricetag, especially for boxed copies.

Here's some of the all the ones I want most right now:

  • Final Fantasy VI
  • Yoshi's Island
  • Zombies Ate My Neighbors
  • R-Type III
  • Donkey Kong Country 2
  • Megaman X & X2

The reason I've decided to do this because I want to play these games in their original form. I've always thought that  roms and even the Wii's virtual console downloads just don't look or sound the exact same as the originals.

It's hard to explain but I'm more excited about playing these old games then I am about the Playstation 4 being annouced. Maybe it's because I know how many awesome ones there was and that I haven't finished a lot of them. The only games I remember completing on the SNES were DKC, SMW, TMNT Turtles In Time & Mario Kart. I beat Super Metroid and A Link to the Past on virtual console years later.

My goal is to build a collection of all the best SNES games I can get!

I did it... sold my PS3

Today I uploaded all my saves to the cloud and sold my beloved second gen model 80Gig PS3 to a dude off Craiglist. That PS3 was a huge part of my life but sometimes letting go if for the best. No joke, I honestly looked after that PS3 like it was a baby, the only time it ever got scuffed up was when I lent it to my brother for a few weeks. Early 2009 was the time when I purchased it and owned it for almost 4 solid years. This console gave me countless hours of outstanding gaming and entertainment. After 4 years it was still running as strong as the day I bought it for 400 at Best Buy. The first game I bought for my PS3 was Metal Gear Solid 4. Boy did I play the **** out of that game. It wasn't until I discovered Uncharted: Drakes Fortune that I became hooked on PS3 though. Trophies, a friends list, Blu-ray support... this machine did everything I wanted it to do and more.

(My PS3 back in 2010  )

So long old friend. Best puchase I ever made.

It's amazing how attached I became to this piece of hardware. This gen I've owned a Wii & 360 and had no trouble parting with them when I sold them (or in the 360's case, when it died). For some reason I had an emotional attachment to this PS3 in particular. In the end it's still just a bunch of circuit boards & microchips underneath that black extorior.

You may be asking... Why'd you sell it?

Well it was because I was spending too much time on it and not focusing on my real life priorities enough. I will be buying another PS3 but I'll be waiting until I get my real life priorities back in order. This could take a month or a year but I'll wait until I got my cards straight.

New Phone, games and happenings

I've been working a lot & haven't been in the blogging mood, but here goes.

I'd been holding out on a new phone for a while but this is the one I'd been waiting for... You may have heard of it...

The Samsung Galaxy S3

The screen looks a bit scratched in the picture but that's the screen protector. This phone is a huge upgrade for so I'm really happy I got it.

New Games:

When they annouced the God Of War saga I was excited to see what kind of bonus content would come with this collection. Turns out it has none and is just re-labeled disk versions of the God Of War Collection & God Of War 3. The biggest disappointment with this collection is that they dont give you Chains Of Olympus & Ghost Of Sparta on a disk, all you get is download codes instead. Kingdoms Of Amalur is still in my backlog of games to play.

I was a huge fan of the first Darksiders but am not as interested in the sequel as I thought I'd be. Borderlands 2 is awesome as expected though.

As for downloadable games The Walking Dead was one that really got my attention. Great storytelling! I can't wait for episode 4!

Oh yeah, I also got rid of my bricked Xbox:

This picture is pretty self-explaintory. :P

If your a retro old school gamer/Megaman fan and you haven't seen this video yet, do yourself a favor.

Sudden urge to play Zelda

This is going to be a short blog but I wanted to get this off my chest..

I don't know if any of you fellow gamers have experienced this but.. every once and a while Zelda songs start playing in my head!

Today it was the Owl's Theme from Ocarina Of Time.

I didn't play the 3DS remake and I haven't played OOT in years, yet this song is still edged into mind. Zelda songs in general tend to have a timeless sound to them.

Has this ever happened to you?

Quite possibly the best day of my life!

Yesterday I went to my first live Major Leauge Baseball game at the Rogers Centre in Toronto.

The teams that were playing were the Toronto Blue Jays and the New York Mets. It was so amazing that it almost felt like a dream to me. To top it all off I was in the best seat in the house! Box seats! There was free food, drinks, and a really hot/nice waitress. ;)

Here's some of the pictures I took of the game:

That's the C.N Tower in the background. ^^^

Oh yeah, and if you're wondering Toronto ended up winning. :)

I just got back from the midnight launch of Diablo 3!

I'm writing this blog as a wait for Diablo 3 to install on my computer...The EB Games was packed so I ended up heading over to Future Shop (the Canadian equillvalent of Best Buy). I just got back from waiting in a huge line at the Future Shop in my city. The line went pretty fast and I ended up puchasing the game at 12:45pm. This is the second game launch I'd ever been to (1st was God Of War III) so you know how awesome this game has to be! Here's a few pictures that I just took of the game and the graphics card I ended up buying. Enjoy!
