All dressed up and no place to go

PROS: * Great environments -- Empire Bay looks terrific, and nice weather effects too * Good voice acting throughout * Gunplay/cover system is fair - not amazing, but still fun CONS: * Extremel...

    DC Universe Online

Fast-paced, fun to play, but a little too shallow for an MMO

I played in Beta, but decided not to purchase the retail game. Overall it was fun for a few weeks but very forgettable. A quick overview: Pros: -- Great textures, and nice equippable gear options ...

    Gothic 3

Rated on August 29, 2010 by Tybalt

Fantastic landscape, great open-ended gameplay, wonderful score. Also a bit repetitive, and buggy as hell.

Interesting RPG that isn't nearly as polished or stable as it should be. I almost gave up early on due to all the bugs, but I'm glad I stuck with it because Gothic 3 does have some nice things to off...

This ambitious mix of gaming elements is not a recipe for fun

    SpellForce: The Order of Dawn

Rated on June 27, 2010 by Tybalt

This ambitious mix of gaming elements is not a recipe for fun

I picked up Spellforce: Platinum on sale via Impulse last month. Based on the editor reviews, I thought it might turn out to be the kind of game that rewards you for digging deeper and investing a ...

    Rent, don't buy

    Bully

Rated on January 27, 2007 by Tybalt

    Rent, don't buy

"Bully" is the answer to the question "What would we get if we re-themed GTA, sanitized it a bit to avoid more parental and media outcry, but forgot to leave in enough variety to reall...

Well, the toolset rocks anyway :-)

    Neverwinter Nights 2

Rated on November 06, 2006 by Tybalt

Well, the toolset rocks anyway :-)

Big disappointment after the long wait, and it's hard to tell what Obsidian spent all that time working on. Unless maybe it's the re-write of the Aurora toolset from the ground up? (I haven't spent ...

It is what it is -- another serviceable Bioware RPG vehicle.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords

Rated on March 08, 2006 by Tybalt

It is what it is -- another serviceable Bioware RPG vehicle.

I'm a little surprised at the excellent critical reception Bioware's recent RPGs have enjoyed, including KOTOR 2. Don't get me wrong -- KOTOR and Jade Empire are probably the best RPGs out there thes...

    Gun

Rated on March 08, 2006 by Tybalt

Long on style, short on substance.

Playing "Gun" is a bit like chatting up a runway model. It's drop-dead gorgeous, but it doesn't take long to realize there's really nothing going on upstairs. So yes, Gun is gorgeous. Beautiful...

Good game for its time, a nice hybrid of a Tomb Raider-style 3rd person shooter and a combo-fighter.

    Oni (Platinum)

Rated on March 06, 2006 by Tybalt

Good game for its time, a nice hybrid of a Tomb Raider-style 3rd person shooter and a combo-fighter.

Oni is obviously dated these days -- even more so than other PS2 games. The cavernous blocky levels, super-low poly characters, short rendering horizon, and static low-res textures weren't top-notch ...

Ambience and environment make for a fun FPS "skin"

    Red Dead Revolver

Rated on March 06, 2006 by Tybalt

Ambience and environment make for a fun FPS "skin"

Red Dead Revolver looks like it could easily have been developed on top of the Unreal Engine, and for the most part, the game plays like a straightforward shooter. There's enough flavor to make the e...
