I was led to believe that with the Vista exclusive DX10, performance would sky rocket due to it being many many times more efficient than DX9. Yet performance on the whole drastically decreased and now more than a year on and there is still no sign of this massive performance boost. The very reason that Microsoft marketed Vista as 'for gamers' has yet to materialize, therefore I shall be sticking to XP and shrugging my shoulders at the slight extra sparkle possible with DX10. My friend and I both have high end machines, his with vista mine with XP, Crysis looks gorgeous on both, just his FPS is half mine...

The only true selling point for us gamers is DX10, as of yet there is only the geforce 8800 GTX and GTS in terms of DX10 cards and no DX10 games. As with each launch of an MS OS Vista looks set to continue the trend of compatability issues and bugs. The only reason to get Vista now is so you can look at you files in the pretty, system hogging, Aero desktop. Whats the point? I don't want pretty visuals on my desktop, I want functionality. Vista looks set to dumb down the interface even further, increase anti piracy protection which always **** up legit software as well as unlegit, and it's security has already been hacked. Therefore I say wait this one out. Of course we are going to have to get Vista eventually because those crafty bastards at MS won't do DX10 for XP. I say wait a year at least until all the major problems have been ironed out, and hopefully the extortionate price has dropped. There is no point getting it for the forseable future.
