Hey guys John here,
I went to my local AMC Theater to see the new movie: Rush. I thought this movie was great. Ron Howard did a fantastic job with being historically accurate on the cars that competed in the 1976 Formula 1 World Championship. I also applaud Ron for the excellent effects used in the movie and the gripping dialogue from Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Bruhl. WARNING, I'm about to go into depth with the main story of the movie, so if you're not a fan of spoilers, then don't read. Anyway, this movie is about English Playboy James Hunt and Austrian Intellect Niki Lauda on their fierce rivalry and intense battle for the 1976 Formula 1 World Championship. James and Niki's rivalry began in British Formula 3 in 1970 where James runs into Niki and causes him to spin out, Niki is furious with James and confronts him with the middle finger. Niki's family background in business allows to buy a Formula 1 ride at the now extinct BRM Team. Niki gives his crew several changes needed to the car to make it competitive. When Clay Regazonni takes the car out for a test drive, he is 2.3 seconds faster with Niki's suggessted changes to car and the BRM crew are stunned that Clay went over Niki's predicted 2 seconds faster with the changes. James earns a Formula 1 ride with the now extinct Hesketh team, which was owned by Lord Hesketh, someone James knew and drove for in the past. Niki though is one step ahead of James and signs with Ferrari for the 1975 season. Niki calls the Ferrari a "sh*t box" while demanding changes to the car in testing at Fioranno. Niki was crushing James in 1975 and James needed a better car to compete with Niki. Niki was World Champion in 1975, just so you know. James gets a ride with McLaren, the second best team in Formula 1 in 1976. James gets off to a bad start in the 1976 Season while Niki goes on to win the races. James finally gets a win in Spain, but was disquaified for his car being too wide, giving Niki the win. The penalty against James was overtuned by the FIA and gives James much needed points to compete with Niki. At the German Grand Prix at the Nurburgring, Niki wanted the race to be cancelled due to the high number of fatalities at the Nurburgring. A vote was casted by the FIA and the race would go on as planned. Niki was charging through the field on slick tires after making a bad decision to start on wets, when a suspension failure caused Niki to hit the barriers and puncture the gas tank which caused the car to start on fire. Niki's face was badly burned in the accident and he inhaled a lot of smoke. During Niki's recovery, James is able to catch up to Niki in the points. At the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, Niki returns to the cockpit and finishes a heroic 4th place to keep his World Championship hopes alive. The World Championship came down to the Japanese Grand Prix at Fuji under torrential rain. Niki would park his car in the pits a few laps in and say that it's too dangerous to drive in these conditions. James fought hard to stay in the battle and after coming in 3rd, secured the 1976 Formula 1 World Championship by 1 point. James and Niki were fierce rivals on the track, but good friends off the track.
Good ol' Niki bringing lots of humor in the movie. Daniel Bruhl did an awesome job portraying Niki Lauda. To hear Niki say words like "a**hole" and "f*ck" was hilarious. Chris Hemsworth did an awesome job portraying James Hunt. I really thank Ron Howard, the Director of Rush, for making this movie. It's really great to see a movie about the Golden Era of Formula 1. Formula 1 today is a shell of its former self. I miss tobacco sponsorship and the phrase "sex was safe, racing was unsafe." This is a must-see movie for any racing fan or any fan of Sports Movies. I give this movie a 9/10.
