@Stevo_the_gamer: Amazing seeing a cop complain because someone is held liable for breaking laws. Simply amazing.

I complain even when my cases get adjudicated. For example, one of my cases here in California resolved with 30 days in jail with a lifetime sex offender registry after being in possession with child pornography and distribution of child pornography. Do you think that warrants complaint? Only 30 days in jail?

@Stevo_the_gamer: "The state of NY is using a rarely used statute"

That's a stretch. It's obviously rarely used because it's uncommon for multi-million dollar corporations to get stung for tax fraud...but it's not like some obscure legal curio. It has been used against Exxon and Trump University and other fraudulent organisations in the past for good reason - it is effective at combating fraud.

Trump is trying to pretend this statute has never been used because the court of public opinion is the only court he has any power in. If you read the court pleadings and correspondence, etc., you'll see a very different story - one where Trump loses constantly because he an his team self-incriminates, are incapable of following civil procedure, and offer no real substantive arguments to defend his conduct.

It's a stretch... then you said it's "obviously rare" ... lol ... okay, but then you say it's "tax fraud"? Is that what the civil charge is for? Tax fraud? Perhaps you should cite for the class which specific statute was pursued here and that he was convicted of by a judge? I could have misunderstood what the charge was for...

What other cases have been privy to this specific charge that was sought by the state? Is there similarities? What do you think plane forger?

Back on topic, if I'm reading things correctly, Trump only has about a week to come up with $83 million and about a month to come up with half a billion if he wants to appeal the Carroll and NY fraud cases.

I'm genuinely curious to see whether he pays anything. Appealing would probably be a terrible idea given his recent track record, but...I mean, what else can he do to string this along?

*edit* Also, once again, it's wild that any of this is happening.Trump was one of the most powerful people on the planet a few years ago, and now he can't muster up a legal team capable of defending him.

At best, all they seem to do is stall these cases with nonsense arguments - which certainly paints Trump in a terrible light. His handling of these cases makes him look evasive, petty, and completely disrespectful of the legal system.

Really? Lol. This is wild to contemplate how this would happen against Trump? The state of NY is using a rarely used statute (the other cases are hilarious juxtaposed to this case against Trump) to pursue Trump civilly (lol), with no actual victims. Any person with common sense knows the angle being played here.

Easily baited and trolled.

As long as it gets attention, it's a W.

Well, to be fair it's not exclusive to progressives either. It's just the nature of the beast that is the internet. I've been duped a few times not realizing it was a parody account/fake AI. For example, that Greta Thunberg vegan grenade initially got me but as the clip got crazier and crazier... alarm bells went off like okay, this is so good now that it's hilarious and clearly someone having fun. lol

If it was up to me, I would unplug the Internet for everyone. The negatives far outweigh the positives of convenience.

Enough context?

You're still copying and pasting? lmao

Out of curiosity, would you/do you consider what is happening to people like Alex Jones and other far-right loudmouths as suppressing of freedom of expression?

Not trying to entrap you or anything lol, just curious where your stance is.

Private folks? Nah, the suppression can only occur under the direction, or the guise of, government action. Although, it's kinda ironic when someone like me is in this position of moderating public forums... Hmm!

If public (government) officials are pressuring private companies publicly, and/or privately, to manipulate or suppress thoughts, commentary, etc, they don't agree with, then that's where the issue resides.

The waters become murky when private companies begin suppressing elected officials--especially where their platforms have de-facto become the public square in many respects. I'm on the fence with that one because it's still a private platform. I see both arguments and they both have strong cases.

What is the solution, then? To laugh as we watch the world's greatest democracy destroyed? To ignore serious threats?

I would make the argument that the far right have mastered the art of trolling while being serious. They say "I want to destroy democracy HAHAHAHA that's funny right? But seriously..." and, what? We just laugh and go "Oh he can't be serious, let's just go along with it"?

The GOP didn't take the Tea Party serious, which morphed into MAGA; they all laughed at Trump, but then he outspent candidate after candidate until he was president.

They are spending hundreds of millions of dollars and enacting plans that have been in effect since Reagan was president; they're taking themselves serious, I think we should too.

That's an excellent question. I mean there's always the solution of suppressing the freedom of expression through nefarious or sneaky ways (I think a user highlighted that a few posts back...) Maybe coordinate with major publishing organizations and media folks to suppress a breaking news story for example, or suspend satirical accounts like La Babylonian Dee? There's always ways to manipulate and coordinate a desired narrative.

Well, the standards aren't exactly high to begin with. This is especially true when manipulating the already rather gullible who already have that predetermined outcomes made. lol This is like textbook ridicule of your critics.

At the end of the day, y'all will do you regardless, this won't change anything to anyone nor will it influence any critical analysis moving forward. Lol

Wasn't it ridiculed for some of the most egregiously priced vehicles and the paid currency cost to buy them?

Luckily, it still has a few more years until Sony will shut down the servers like they did to GT Sport. :P

@Stevo_the_gamer: Ah, I see that you've simply chosen to ignore the attempt to literally steal the 2020 election by obfuscating it in your mind with false equivalences.

It can be so hard to keep up sometimes with the methods conservatives use to bury their heads in the sand.

Not at all, the silly writ petitions were clearly shut down by the courts but you'll be hard-pressed to get me to say there was an attempt to "end democracy" by utilizing said in-place mechanisms. Again, I do love some hyperbolic sensation though. Maybe you should keep to doom scrolling on the Twitter sphere... err, X-sphere and fall victim to the trolling from these folks. X-sphere...That doesn't have a good ring to it though, shoot, maybe my detective mind now is losing its wit!
