The philosophy has always been more about punishment rather than rehabilitation or prevention.

one_plum
That needs to change, we as a society have advanced far enough to do more in the areas you mention prevention and of course rehabilitation than to simply lock people away in prison which of course is the easy way out. Another issue are these Judges that throw people in prison with no compassion and a complete lack of wisdom... There was no justice for Diane Tran and Judge Lanny Moriarty should be removed from being a Judge. http://www.khou.com/news/Jail-offers-no-comment-in-case-of-honor-student-jailed-after-missing-school--155508335.html

The party advocating liberty and small government is the same one that traditionally advocates tough on crime stances such as prison time for drug use.mattbbpl
Yeah, they always talk about having smaller government but every year Law Enforcement agencies get larger and larger... In the city I live in they've closed two post offices but hired 20 new deputies and purchased a fleet of brand new police cars and equipped officers with wearable video cameras... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k9Zay27xFlM

The Land of the free turned into the Country of control. It will only get worse as the years go on.

I believe your absolutely right, we should organize a political platform and get out to vote against these prison loving, liberty taking police state war mongers...

I just find it so disturbing that America has more citizens in prison than any other country on the face of the earth... This country was once called the land of the free. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_incarceration_rate Why does it seem people only vote for the pin-head politicians that advocate locking people up?

Even Pat Robertson thinks the "War on Drugs" should end and embraced the idea of legalizing marijuana, arguing that it is a way to bring down soaring rates of incarceration and reduce the social and financial costs... http://www.nytimes.com/2012/03/08/us/pat-robertson-backs-legalizing-marijuana.html These Judges that send people to prison so easily should have to spend a month there themselves just to get a taste of what they so easily condemn others too...

America sends people to prison for just about everything, I thought this was supposed to be the land of the free but we have in America more people in prison than the Gulag Archipelago under Stalin at its height. http://www.newyorker.com/arts/critics/atlarge/2012/01/30/120130crat_atlarge_gopnik I wanted a serious discussion on this topic after reading this news article about a young honor student who was jailed because she missed too many days of school... http://www.khou.com/news/Jailed-Honor-Students-Story-Goes-International-155167295.html We as Americans should be out raged that we basically live in a police state, young people should unite to throw these people out of office

My old 60GB PS3 died while playing infamous 2 and I'm trying to think of what would be the best option for me to do. I contacted Sonys service department, they want $140 to repair it and they gave me a list of things to do such as- Disable my account, back up my PS3 harddrive then format the drive- well I can't do any of that because my PS3 will not even start up. I'm worried that I will lose all my PS1, PS2 and PS3 saved data and all my DLC no matter what I do. If I send it to Sony for repairs they will format the drive so I will lose all my saves and DLC. I thought about taking my harddrive out and replacing it with another but I read somewhere that idea won't work because the PS3 would detect it and ask to format it. So if I'm going to lose all my saves and DLC then I thought I might as well just buy a new PS3. Anyone know how to back up a PS3 harddrive even if the console doesn't work? And if anyone has had Sony repair their PS3, did Sony wipe your hardrive? I would really like to keep all my PS1, PS2 and PS3 saved data and all my DLC if anyone knows how please let me know. One last question, does anyone know how to get a game disc out of a dead PS3?

I don't have any cartridge based games in my gaming collection, but I keep each disc in seperate anti-static disc covers and I keep all those inside a air-tight container... I have almost 300 games and they all work perfectly. The oldest is from 1995 (15 years) and I don't see any signs of deterioration.
