Step one... Bring back Soapbox. Step two... Abandon Fuse. Step three... Replace Fuse link with Soapbox. Seriously, it seems like Gamespot is trying to push all its social aspects to Fuse. Like it's trying to make a Facebook for gaming. Only thing is, that's exactly what Gamespot is (or was anyway). There's simply no need for Fuse. I don't need another site to follow games or friends blogs because Gamespot already does that. It seems like for the past year or so Gamespot has been trying to more and more like other popular social and user centric sites such as Facebook and Giant Bomb. GS has pushed news feeds and game updates. Its tried to go for a simpler, content focused design which is essentially just a list of game updates. Yet with each change, GS' element of community gets pushed aside. I can go anywhere for game news. Joystiq for instance often has more relevant news and posts it faster. But Gamespot's niche has always been its community. No other game site (until Giant Bomb came along) enabled its users to contribute so much. Follow games, add Wishlists, Collections, personal blog posts, Soapbox, community forums, game forums, private group forums, follow people, collect achievements. Why are these community features slowly dying out? The forums haven't gotten a meaningful update in years. Obviously this is more than just Soapbox not appearing on the main page any longer, but the problem goes much deeper and it's disturbing. Frankly, without Gamespot's community I can't see a reason to use the site over any other game news site. Stop trying to push Fuse. Get back to what Gamespot great to begin with. Reincorporate Raptr or something similar (why was that removed?). Your goal should be to make Gamespot the first place for games, news, and friends. Not a collection of inadequate mini-sites.

It's a strange situation to begin with. Anti-discrimination, sexual harassment and violence policies already protect people from unwanted contact and discriminatory language. This policy explicitly includes homosexuals as well. So if I'm gay and I feel uncomfortable because the people around me abuse me verbally or physically, or just say things that make it hard for me to conduct my duties, I'm protected and can take action despite my sexual preference. This goes both ways, gay - straight, male - female. Doesn't matter. Everyone's protected. So on one side we're saying that it's ok for you to be here as long as you don't tell anyone you're gay But if people harass you because of your sexual preference, known to them or not, intentional or not, it's your right to take action so that you have a comfortable work environment. Just don't say your gay or you'll be discharged. It's a double standard. It doesn't make any sense. I think people are just afraid that if people are allowed to be openly gay you're going to end up with pride parades marching along the forecastle of their ships. Which is ridiculous. They may not say it but many don't try to hide the fact that they're gay Really, we just need to acknowledge the elephant in the room and repeal a policy that doesn't do any good - only takes good people out of a service that they volunteered for.

Your connection speed and lag are two different things. Everyone's lag is different and depends on the quality of the cable or telephone line and number of people sharing the same line. If you're interested in what kind of lag you'll experience you'll have to ask other people in your area using the same service provider.

So as long as there's a hard drive attached to the Arcade version then it can play original games, right? [edit] ah, just got confirmation that yes, original xbox games will run on Arcade as long there's a HDD connected.

xbox.com says that only the Premium and Elite versions play original Xbox games. Arcade is limited to 360 titles. Anyone know why? Does this just have to do with the Arcade not having a HDD or is it something related to system firmware? Could an Arcade unit with a HDD play original titles?

I rented SC.DA last october and don't really remember how fun it was...

Hah, it must have left quite an impression on you then. My gut reaction to that sort of comment is that you probably didn't enjoy it very much.

Opera hands down. It beats out every other browser in terms of properly rendering pages; has the cleanest, most unobtrusive interface - plus it's also skinable; built in Spell Check; 4 levels of Popup Blocker; save Sessions; identify as Explorer; page zoom; built in accessibility styles; widgets; they were the first to use tabs; browse mobile web pages; built in mail client. It is a little slower to start up, but pages render faster than Firefox - if you turn off the refresh delay. It also doesn't have a lot of support so while it can do anything that Firefox or Safari can do, some crappy sites will turn you away saying you need to upgrade to Explorer or Firefox. The ONLY thing where Firefox wins is it's open source and plug-ins which gives it much more capabilities than it ships with.

If I can get back home in time to catch the UPS guy (or girl) I should have my 360 back tonight. Hopefully, fully repaired - or replaced. In any case, do I need to be concerned about corrupting data when I reattach the HDD? I can't imagine there's any way to back it up but I figured I'd ask around.

What a tool. Seriously, who believes Halo made the DC sniper better at shooting people? Oh, right, holding and aiming a rifle and moving a thumbstick are completely similar.
