Back from suspension, my GOTY, and Hapy New Year

by on

I'm a bit late on this, but happy new year to everyone out there.

Anyway, I got suspended for 5 days. If you were around in SW during the whole SWA Discussion thing, you might know why :P. Don't really feel like discussing details.

My gamespot posting has slowed down dramatically, mainly because I've been more active on Gufu's offsite forum Feel free to join it (shameless advertising), we're now open to everyone, but dont bring any SW or OT bs into it.

I guess it's a good time to mention my GOTY, if it matters. Lot's of sequels (and disappointments) this year. Fitting that my goty goes to a new IP.

It was a toss up between Skyrim, Deus Ex, Minecraft, and Gears 3. In the end, I went with minecraft due to the brilliant concept. We (gufu) had a great minecraft server going on for a few months and it was an amazing experience, save for some griefing. The sense of community is unparalelled, and it just feels plain satisfying to look at a giant city, or even a small village created by you and your bros. Lots of memories were had on that server, and no game (especially none from 2011) will evoke that feeling. Whether it is looking at your friend's castle and then being inspired to create one twice as large, or just being intimidated and realizing that your creations are total crap (LegendofNerd's giant Fort was THE creation), you will always have that sense of acomplishment in minecraft. Even an ugly ditch in the ground that you call home will feel like a wonderful creation because you worked on it.

Sorry if that seems unorganized. I just spit out whatever was in my mind and didn't care to make it too coherent :P:

Happy Thanksgiving/Black Friday & GUFU is now open

Anyway, that's all. Feel free to join and contribute to the new forums/site.

Im back.

by on

Wait, I never left.

But I stopped blogging for a while. No real reason other than laziness. Started college last week, and it's been a great time so far. My room is stacked with snacks, a fridge, microwave and a TV. Didn't bring my rig, so my PC gaming has pretty much stopped.

But I did get a 360, along with Gears 3. I've been playing that and Fifa '11 lately.

Gears 3 is awesome. One of the best TPS I've played. Everyone should play this game. And the multiplayer is fantastic. I mainly got it because most of GUFU was getting it, and I didn't want to miss out on the fun game nights. Don't regret it at all, so far.

Another game I got was Halo: Reach, but I got it for FREE. Thanks to The_Game21x for giving me the code to download it :D I started playing it a bit and it's fun so far.

There are a few more games I want on the 360, but these three will keep me busy for the forseeable future.

Anyway, that's it for now,

Later. (if I ever do another blog)

Finally own a DS

by on

Earlier this month, I picked up a DS Lite, which is my first handheld since the Gameboy Advanced. I owned a Gameboy Color before that, so I guess you could say I like Nintendo's handhelds :P

First impressions are extremely positive. At the moment, I only have Pokemon Soul Silver, which is a very good update and remake of my favorite game in the series and one of my favorite RPGs of all time, Pokemon Silver.

The game is very fun so far, and I like how the two screens are used, since I'm not required to use the touch screen, but have the option to. This is also why I'm kind a bit excited for the NGP, because more options are always a great idea.

The thing does have some cons though. For one, I can't play online since it won't support WPA encryption, and I don't think I'm moving back to WEP just for the DS. Also, it's a bit annoying that the system shuts down every time I exit the options menu, even if I don't tweak anything. Also, I wish I could adjust brightness in game.

But overall, I'm very happy with it. It's built well, does a great job of replacing my GBA, and has a great library of games that I'll definitely check out.

Pokemon Soul Silver review is likely coming soon. I still need to play Platinum and White too :P Lot's of Pokemon in the near future.

It is built

For now, here are the required Crysis pics:

That is all.

Happy... February

by on

Hello there and Happy Greatest month of the year. Yup, my birthday comes in February. Too bad it's so short. I guess that's why people say good things come in small quantities :( .

So, I figured I'd talk about music. Game music to be specific. Here are some ass kicking OST's from this gen. Some awesome music here, and I'm judging these based on how well they hold up outside the game.

NOTE: *** = epic ;)

10. Valkyria Chronicles

VC's soundtrack wasn't extremely epic. Nor was it very musically complex. Instead, we heard subtle tunes here and there and overall, the soundtrack was very pleasant to listen to. It complimented the visuals and presentation perfectly.

Desperate Fight

Hope for Tomorrow

Final Battle

9. Company of Heroes

This one was unexpected. I wasn't "blown away" or anything by the soundtrack, but it was very fitting for the war setting. It was also free with the game :D

Main Theme

Panzer Theme

8. The Witcher

Beautiful soundtrack that compliments the setting of the game. The Enhanced Edition comes with the game's original soundtrack, and some inspired music. I highly recommend you to check these tracks out.

Witcher theme***

Menu Theme

7. Super Mario Galaxy

Re-done tracks are masterful. New tracks are just as good. It's also one of the few games where the music compliments the gameplay. Very well done.

Gusty Garden

Bowser battle

6. Halo 3

It's 2011. If you didn't get the memo back when the first Halo came out, these games have kickass soundtracks.

One Final Effort***

Finish the Fight

5. Super Smash Bros. Brawl

The older and newer tracks are both excellent.

Together We Ride (Fire Emblem)***

Eight Melodies (Earthbound)

4. Bayonetta

This was also unexpected. It's got a pretty neat range too. There are the fast, upbeat jazz type tracks, and the epic Sephiroth-type tracks too :P

Let's Dance Boys

The Gates of Hell

Vigrid Town Areas

Mysterious Destiny

3. Final Fantasy XIII

Again, if you didn't get the memo over a decade ago, these games have fantastic soundtracks. You can remove Nobuo Uematsu from it, but it's still destined to be greatness :D Hamauzu has earned his place in my list of favorite composers. Just listening to the tracks make me want to play the game again. But yea... thats a different story :P

The Promise/The Oath

Saber's Edge

Blinded By Light***

Lightning's Theme

Snow's Theme***

The Sunleth Waterscape

Nanscent Requiem***

Kimi Ga Irukara

2. BlazBlue: Calamitty Trigger

I can't recall many games where I've enjoyed the soundtrack more than the actual game. Not to say BlazBlue is a bad game; far from it actually. But the soundtrack is fantastic. Some of it may sound like generic thrash metal, but it really feels different from most other game music. Some tracks beautifully combine Piano with Lead Guitar.

Under Heaven Destruction***

Bullet Dance (Noel)

Lust Sin (Jin)***

Imperial Code (Noel vs Jin)***

Blue Beating***

Calamitty Trigger

1. Metal Gear Solid 4

Surprise? Evoking emotions to your fanbase is one thing. Drawing emotions from first-time gamers is an even better feat. That's what MGS4's soundtrack does. Be it the slow, sad, Old Snake theme or the epic Metal Gear Saga, MGS4's soundtrack has something for everyone. cIassic MGS tracks return. Newer tracks are great. All in all, it's what you'd expect from a blockbuster action film, and then more. Harry Gregson Williams has 1up'd everyone else in this generation.

Oh and haters gonna hate 8)

Metal Gear Saga***

Old Snake***

The Hunter

The Hunted

Infinite Loop

Love Theme

Guns of the Patriots***

Father & Son

Well, that's over. Instead of posting my film impressions and my thoughts on the Oscars right now, I'll wait until I see True Grit (tomorrow). Until then, goodbye :)

Happy New Year!

by on

Hello Gamespot people. I've been realy lazy lately during my holidays (which are going to end soon :( ). So I'll be doing a quick blog right now.

Happy New Year to everyone reading this :) May 2011 be better than 2010 in all regards.

If you know anything about PC gaming, you'll know that Valve has had awesome daily Steam Sales every day which lasted for 2 weeks (It's still not over, there's one going on today and one more tomorrow). And this year, I didn't restrict my purchases as much as I should have :P

Before the Black Friday/Thanksgiving sales, I had about 30 steam games. After that one week of sales, that number jumped up to 50. Now after the Holiday sales, I own 92. Yes, 92. My game count tripled in the last month and a half. So I thought I'd make a big list of my Steam backlog. These are just the games that I have the interest in finishing. There are about a dozen others that I don't care for finishing :P

  • Amnesia
    Batman:Arkham Asylum
    BF: Bad Company 2
    Company of Heroes
    Crysis Warhead

    Deus Ex
    Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
    DiRT 2
    GTA: Episodes from Liberty City
    Mirror's Edge
    PoP: The Sands of Time
    PoP: The Warrior Within
    PoP: The Two Thrones
    STALKER: Shadow of Chernobyl
    STALKER: Call of Pripyat
Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter
Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast
Star Wars Jedi Knight Mysteries of Sith
Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II
Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy
    Star Wars: Dark Forces
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
    Super Meat Boy
    Titan Quest: Immortal Throne
    The Witcher: Enhanced Edition
    World of Goo

The games highlighted in blue are the ones that I think I'll wait until I get a new rig to play sicne I doubt I'll get a smooth experience playing on this crappy laptop :P

I also have a fairly thick backlog on the PS3, which I'm trying to finish as soon as possible, starting with Red Dead Redemption.

My top 5 films of 2010:

As usual, I didn't get a chance to watch every film that I had interest in (movie tickets is expensive).

  1. The Social Network

This one came as a surprise. I didn't follow the film much at all. Just saw a trailer and went to see it with a bunch of buddies. It was indeed amazing and very deserving of the number 1 spot. Not only is it imformative, but it's a fast paced, entertaining watch that will engage you from start to finish. Go see it right now!

  2. Toy Story 3

There's not reason not to see this. The only problem holding it back at all is that it uses what made Toy Story 1 and 2 awesome. And even that is not even a semi-issue. Toy Story 3, just like it's predecessors will live on forever as a cl@ssic. Pixar is getting really good at the dramatic stuff. If there's a 2010 film I can recommend to anyone, kids and adults alike, it would be Toy Story 3.

  3. Black Swan

This came as a surprise as well. Whether you watch it to see the female stars rip one another apart, or you're a fan of Aronofsky's films, you'll get immersed into Black Swan. I don't give two ****s about ballet dancing or anything and this film grabbed my inside and sent chills down my spine. It's easily the best made film of year and definitely one of my all time favorites. Definitely go see this. Natalie Portman's performance is stellar and the other roles are played really well too. Do not miss out on this film.

  4. Inception

The big summer blockbuster. I generally enjoy most films with Leo. (Loved Blood Diamond :) ), and this is no exception. What Inception lacks in character development, it makes up for in it's engaging and thrilling story. It's got some plot holes but it's definitely very entertaining from start to end. The plot is very confusing for the first half of the film until everything slowly starts to unfold. I'm getting tired of saying it, but go watch this if you haven't yet. Along with Toy Story 3, it's the most memorable film of the year.

  5. The Expendables

I will not back this up as being one of the best of the year. It's not really well made or anything spectacular. The plot is thin, the girl is ugly, and there's no real point to it. However, The Expendables is one of the most entertaining films you'll watch. Explosions going off everywhere for no reason, knives flying all around, Jason Statham being a badass, etc. You get the point. It's a really fun watch. I wouldn't call it a must-watch but I recommend it nonetheless to anyone looking for a fun action film.

That's all for this blog, have a kickass 2011 :)

Oh right, my resolutions... I need to bump up my grades a bit. I'd also like to shorten my backlog from about 40 games to around 20 or 15 by the end of the year. And finally, I want to build my own computer :x

Okay, that's it, laters.

Top 10 Albums

by on

Top 10 Albums:

10. The Element of Freedom - Alicia Keys (2009)

I'm not a big RnB fan, or even a fan of Alicia Keys for that matter, but this album was one that I could listen to over and over again. A few songs stand out in terms of quality: Love is Blind, Unthinkable, and Trey Sleeping With a Broken Heart, but I felt that the best one was

Doesn't Mean Anything

9. Appetite For Destruction - Guns N Roses (1987)

My favorite hard rock album, from my favorite hard rock band. Can't go wrong with Guns N Roses, especially in their glory days. A lot of great songs most of which have excellent solos and bass lines, but the top pick was easily

Paradise City

8. There is Nothing Left to Lose - Foo Fighters (1999)

I loved Nirvana, but never was a huge fan of Dave Grohl's Foo Fighters. However, There is Nothing Left to Lose changed my mind for the most part. I know it's a little overplayed, but the top track here is

Learn to Fly

7. Metallica - Metallica (1991)

I can say for sure that I'll get bashed for this one. If asked a few months ago, This album wouldn't be on here at all. Ride the Lightning would have taken its place. But I have since changed my mind, and I can safely say that I'm glad I did so. Metallica is a wonderful album, every track included. Enter Sandman may be overrated to hell and back, but the other tracks in the album, such as Sad But True, Holier Then Thou, Wherever I may Roam, and Nothing Else Matters are amazing. Top pick here, by a landslide is

The Unforgiven

6. Discovery - Daft Punk (2001)

Another album where I'm not a big fan of the genre/artists! Well, Discovery is something I can listen to at any time, be it while writing a paper, playing a game, or when chilling with friends. Then there's the heavy bass. Turn up your bass and listen to this. Godliness 8)

5. Stadium Arcadium - Red Hot Chili Peppers (2006)

Being a HUGE fan of the Chili Peppers, I myself find it hard to believe that I didn't choose Californication or Blood Sugar Sex Magik over Stadium Arcadium. Well, I have my reasons. Explaining will take approximately Five and a Half minutes :)

Snow (Hey Oh)

4. Nevermind - Nirvana (1991)

As I said above, I'm a huge Nirvana fan and this was a no-brainer. The songs in Nevermind just ooze with quality. There aren't any tracks that I flat out hate. And the winner here is

In Bloom

3. Dookie - Green Day (1994) & Warning - Green Day (2000)

Okay, some of you are gonna call me a hypocrite for this, and I have a perfect explanation as to why there are two Green Day albums here. You see, well, ahh, **** it. Both these albums kick ass and here's why :)

When I Come Around ------------ Castaway

2. Sgt. Peppers - The Beatles (1967)

Nothing to say here except, go buy this now. Amazing album! The best of The Beatles :)

With A Little Help From My Friends

Hmm, so what's left? Oh yea, the number one? I can't say I wasn't surprised :)

1. London Calling - The Clash (1979)

The Clash ain't exactly my favorite band or anything. They just have styIe and they know how to make music. The variety in this album is precisely what has earned it the #1 spot. Not a single song is "bad". So Instead of one "amazing" song, how about 5? (in order of favorites)

  1. The Guns of Brixton (turn your "bass" all the way up for this one)
  2. London Calling
  3. Four Horsemen
  4. Spanish Bombs
  5. Lost in the Supermarket

Thanks for reading :) Oh and if you didn't listen to any of the songs, at least listen to the top 3 albums' best songs :P

That is all for now.
