I've had a PS3 for the last month or so and in that time I've got hooked on MotorStorm. Why? Let me count the ways:

1. Presentation - it looks absolutely fantastic. It's one of the best looking games I've ever seen, with dramatic rock formations, mud and scores of vehicles tearing it up all over the place. Seeing the drop on Black God Mesa for the first time is a real 'woah' moment. It also has a brilliant soundtrack - Spiritualized, Primal Scream and Wolfmother. Awesome.

2. Exciting - this game really reminds me of Burnout 3. The races are so intense, with other racers using alternate routes, flying above or around you. It's great to see them crash through their own mistakes - it can be really chaotic at times. It's also great fun to boost to the finish line, before exploding and propelling yourself past the chequered flag. Brilliant.

3. Variety - while there aren't a huge amount of courses, they're all well designed, with lots of different routes to use. The different vehicles are fantastic too.

MotorStorm is a great arcade racer that really gets the adrenaline going. I'm about halfway through the game now and I'm still loving it. But it doesn't seem to get the appreciation it deserves. Why is that? What do you think of MotorStorm, and why do you think it doesn't get talked about more?

Want something to look at while it takes forever to download the BioShock demo? Well now you have something to pass the time, as Irrational Games have uploaded 'Breaking the Mold', which is free for everyone to download. It has over 60 pages of beautiful concept art.

One little word of warning from the BioShock site: "The one thing I'd recommend is skipping over Ken's foreword until after you've played the game, as it holds some spoilers you might want to keep secret your first playthrough is complete."

Link to site - http://www.2kgames.com/cultofrapture/artbook.html

Low res download (15MB)

High res artbook (75MB)

It's great to see developers care this much about the game's fans.

In the West the button at the bottom of the controller has always been thought of as 'A' (see any Sega, Microsoft or Nintendo controller), which has traditionally been accept for games. That tradition was carried across the PlayStation controllers, even if circle for confirm and cross for cancel is more logical.

"Solid" is a sure fire way to make a game or an aspect of it sound really really dull. Some good choices in here so far.

Comments and analysis on graphics and sound will usually appear in the text review, and for most games you can see gameplay footage. Nothing is being lost really.

Watch the swearing, it is unnecessary and over the top. This is GameSpot's new scoring system, they are going to want it to be consistent. There's nothing from stopping you rate component scores within the body of the review if you feel so inclined.

Yup, games with minor faults are now promoted to perfect. Just another reason for developers to strive for mediocrity! Horray!Zeke129

Minor faults = mediocrity? Or is this a parody of the type of nonsensical raving and hyperbole the change in GameSpot's scoring system is causing?

GameSpot should be rating in more increments. They'd be even more accurate if things were rated out of 1000. How else can I tell the difference between two games that scored 8.6?!
