Going down my list:

Anachronox
Giants: Citizen Kabuto
Neverhood Chronicles, The
Overlord
Psychonauts
StarTopia

Oddly enough all my comedy games are also excellent games. ^_^

Edit: Portal was amusing, but I wouldn't call it an all-out comedy game. Darkly comedic at best.

X-Men Legends 2.

I hadn't played the original since it wasn't for the PC, and there was no demo for 2 at the time. But the game sounded neat - an X-Men action RPG? Cool. So I took a chance on it, and I ended up returning it after two hours of play. I NEVER return games. Even games I don't really care for I still consider part of my collection. But this one just had to go.

The most recent worst game that I bought was Advent Rising. I bought it based on a high recommendation, but I thought it was absolute garbage. The only good thing about it was the combat model, but nearly endlessly spawning enemies took the fun out of that, too.

I have other bad games tooof course, spanning back to the early nineties. But I guess I was relatively new to gaming back then and didn't really recognize a bad game when I saw one. So they didn't make as big of impression on me as these more recent ones.

Edit: Damn spaces.
Edit: OMG, these spaces make me want to poke my eyes out. Is there any way to turn off this GUI editor?

Only if you're seriously starving for a shooter. It's really not that great of shooter, but it's highly polished and there are some interesting things going on visually and spacially. I'm glad to have played it once, but I don't think it's worth playing again.

Well to appreciate Half-Life you kind of have to look at the genre prior to its release. Pick up Quake II or Unreal. Those were the leading shooters before Half-Life and they were still Doom type shooters, i.e. find the blue key to unlock the door. Half-Life just blew that kind of game design to shreds out of nowhere. It was completely revolutionary.

Yeah, I mean I agree it was an important game, but I've seen many sites continue to claim it as the best PC game ever created. That's what I can't understand.

Edited for spaces. This is really driving my crazy. Is there any way to turn off this rich text editor?

The Neverhood1carus

Good one. :D Now THAT was a weird game. I always loved that one and thought it was hugely underrated. Too bad it's a bit on the old side now and probably difficult to come by.

And although Thief isn't necessarily "weird," it does have a number of weird and very creepy moments. Try the first two out. They may freak you out.1carus

A man after my own heart! I didn't mention them because I assumed everyone was aware of them by now, but, lordy, if anyone hasn't played those games go out and buy them immediately. They're my favorite games of all time and happen to be what I'm playing right now (just check my profile). :)

Edited for damned spaces.

I felt the FIRST game was overrated, personally. Extremely so. I found it mostly boring, but I understand why people like all the scripted stuff. I suppose it was new for the time. But why it continues to be hailed as one of the greatest PC games of all time I'll never know.

HL2 had an incredible atmosphere to it -- better atmosphere than I believeI've ever seen from a pure FPS (please do not confuse with FPP games in general). That said, I felt its core action was kind of lacking. This is evidenced by the fact that Valve had to continuously mix up the gameplay by introducing new toys and new types of gameplay just to keep it interesting. Now don't get me wrong; as a design philosophy it's an effective approach; It's just not very sophisticated. If one gameplay sequence fails to impress the player then you risk losing their interest completely. That's what happened to me. But I had had great fun all the way up until that point and had already gotten my money's worth, so to speak.

So, yeah. I think from a flow and design perspective HL2 was pretty sloppy, but given its polish and presentation I think it well deserves its accolades. :)

More than any other I think Thief deserves a true third game... not that Deadly Shadows insult.

Magic Carpet 3 is long, LONG overdue. Talk about injustice.

Dark Messiah deserves a sequel as well, which will never happen. I can't tell you how awesome it would be if it continued off of one of the evil endings and the world is overrun with demons.

If not Dark Messiah then a sequel to Arx Fatalis would be most excellent as well. Arkane Studios rock.

Psychonauts wholeheartedly deserves a sequel. Brilliant game there.

And Wizardry 8 needs some sequel lovin', too, But that's not exactly a third or fourth part then is it? ;)

OOh! Wierd games are the best.

Of the indie flavor:

Cholo
Imogen
Darwinia
Penumbra: Overture (tech demo available here)
Knytt

Of the 'more well known but still weird' flavor:

Psychonauts
Sacrifice
Anachronox
Giants: Citizen Kabuto
Oddworld series (Abe's Oddysee, Abe's Exoddus)

Of the 'not so weird, but will keep you entertained' flavor:

Dark Messiah of Might & Magic
Arx Fatalis
Etherlords 2
Lemmings 3D (You'll need to use DOSBox)
StarTopia
TRON 2.0

Of the web based flavor:

Eyezmaze (I recommend Grow RPG, Chronon, Dwarf Complete, Tontie, and Galves Adventure v1)
Picross

Doom 3 was abit scary. The others... I can't say.

Anyway if you want scary thencheck out System Shock 2, Thief: The Dark Project (scarier), or Penumbra: Overture. The first two may have aged a bit and may take a bit of tinkering to get to run properly, but I guarantee it's worth it.

I dunno i played System Shock 2 for 10 seconds because i couldn't strafe on it. There's no such thing as a scary game or a scary movie because you can't actually get harmed while watching them, so what's to be scared about? It's like omg something jumped outta me and my character die, yeah and so what? I'll just play the level again and if i die again then i'll unistall the game.Grantelicious

I pity you.
