@wis3boi: EA has sadly completely abandoned Battlefield 1942 - 2142. Those games for free or for sale are not on origin anymore unless you already have registered them on your individual account.
Meaning that if you were to install these games from retail or from origin in their vanilla form, you can't play them online as the Master Server is shutdown and which is why these fixes are necessary.
After it shutdown, in order to help people find a community solution to reconnecting with Battlefield 2, I made a reddit thread not too long ago with fixes for not only EA Games but for also any other game affected by the shutdown that I could find.

Battlefield 2 must live on with its great mods like Project Reality and Forgotten Hope.
I heard this news earlier and I couldn't believe it. There's no doubt in my mind the game would've made a profit on the pc alone - people have already listed all the reasons why. It leads me to believe that the cause is more because of a burnout and with development not heading as well as planned, the head guy just said enough. Or more specifically he said:

Seriously though, this is a shame. This was one of the most hardcore pc fps franchises and developers left. I hope all of the employees find new jobs easily.
The whole team was great Brad, Alex, Jeff, and so on. I can understand why you would try to symbolize it into one guy though because there were a lot of great editors here back in the day.. I'm not complaining about the current guys or the way things are run. I think they're all giving a lot of effort. It's just different and not to my personal taste. The best times on GS were after the _basic nonsense got sorted out. The new boards were actually stable and spiffy and we got a influx of many new interesting members.
Yep, it's the best DLC ever. It's cheap and not only does it make the battles far more intense but afterwards you get see what a real battlefield would like. I can't believe I never thought how Shogun 2 was lacking blood.
The UI is indeed horrible. I've never ever thought that navigating on the pc would be easier with the WASD keys than the mouse. Hopefully the creation kit comes out soon and someone completely revamps it.
I'm surprised too. It has broken the record by a large percent even beating titles like Portal 2 and Mordern Warfare 2. And like others havesaid, this isn't even the peak yet.Hopefully these numbers prove that PC isn't just 10% of the sales and that it would be worth it for Bethesda to invest in more PC exclusive features.
