Upload Update 4-01-2010

Since my last update I've uploaded speed runs for Mario Party, Star Wars Episode I: Racer, Yoshi's Story, and Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island.

Now to prove that I don't only like Nintendo games (as if the Halo and Portal speed runs didn't do that already) my next uploads will be a speed run of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. I plan to upload the whole trilogy which will be about seven and a half hours of entertainment to any of my fellow speed run enthusiasts.

If you enjoy my uploads then be sure to check out Speed Demos Archive (url: for litterally hundreds of other videos.

And no, I'm not planning an April Fools joke.

Upload Update 10-6-09

Just recently finished uploading the Pokémon Gold speed run, check it out if you're interested but be warned it is over 4 hours long spread through 24 videos (counting the brief Intro). Next up is Portal, the 360 version. You may notice that the PC runs are faster but they make heavy use of scripts. So I tip my proverbial hat to speed runner Cody Miller, who demonstrates true skill in his all manual speed run of Portal in under half an hour (23:10 factoring out required delays).

After Portal I plan to put Pokémon Snap! back up.

New Halo Wars Maps

Recently Halo Wars has received new achievements which mention "Barrens," "Memorial Basin," and "Blood River." These are most likely new maps.]%3a%15%18*iN%08|

Upload Update: 6-21-09

It's been a while since my last entry, but that shouldn't surprise anyone.

As I type I'm uploading the last of the Halo 2 speed runs. It took this long because I had troubles uploading Gravemind, it turns out that the parts I had split the video into were inexplicably 500 times the size of the original full video! This left them at about 1.5 gigabytes each and GameSpot only allows uploads of up to 100 megabytes for free users.

A simple compression resolves that issue and next up is Halo 3 Legendary Best Time runs. Every mission now has a Legendary speed run but Covenant only has a co-op run right now.

After Halo 3 I'm open to suggestions, currently I'm considering a Pokémon Gold/Silver speed run (if I can find one that is).

Gphoria approaches

The cable network G4 has a show called XPlay which primarily reviews games. Twice a year XPlay has a "Best of year" show that grants the standard awards of "Best RPG/Adventure" or "Game of the Year." At the end of the year is the standard one featuring picks from the staff. The other, called Gphoria, is in the summer and is a viewer's choice show.

The regular voting is not open on yet but this year they came up with too many possible Games of the Year so there is a special voting session to narrow it down. The contenders are:

My pick: Halo 3

Why? It is the most complete package on the list, offering not only beautiful visuals, an intriguing story, excellently designed campaign, magnificent music, and superbly balanced and expansive multiplayer but also unique features to enhance all of those. The meta-game, skulls, and online co-op for up to four players add enormous replayability to the campaign mode, Forge and highly customizable and varied gametypes make multiplayer possibilities almost endless, and saved films with the ability to record clips and take hi-res screenshots improve the whole game and make you wonder why don't more games have this feature. On top of all that it incorporates what is almost undisputedly the matchmaking and partying system ever, the stupidly obvious veto feature (stupid in that you wonder why Bungie thought of it first), and Halo is among the few next-gen games that actually let you use all four controllers. And there's more, there's tremendous online support for the community. Players are encouraged to share their custom content and can advertise it online, content can even be flagged for download from Almost forgot to mention Halo's trademark incorporation of vehicles, seamless transition from first person shooting to third person driving. Another thing I should mention before moving on, how much pure fun Halo is to play. Think of it this way, most games are built around a fundamental innovation or design principle (cover for Gears of War, conversation wheel for Mass Effect, realism in Call of Duty etc.) and the Halo series is built around being as fun and satisfying as possible.

All that, and only a few flaws. A rather short campaign (average shooter length), the somewhat annoying Cortana and Gravemind cominiques, and frustrating limitations to campaign saved films. It also would have been nice to have a custom games hub where players could host and advertise or just look for something interesting to play, but no console shooter has that so I won't call that a flaw.

Short and simple: Excellently designed, no glaring (or even leering) flaws, and oh so many extra features that actually add to and improve the overall experience.

My message: go and vote for Gphoria's Game of the Year, if I didn't convince you that it is Halo 3 then I think you're wrong and possibly stupid. I'll try to avoid the flaming of posts, the egging of houses, or the hiring of hitmen.

PS: The shrinking in the last row of games was unintentional, these are unedited pictures from GameSpot arranged in G4's order.

PPS: Also, comments on your pick and reasoning are appreciated and requested.

Bungie Day!

Tommorrow is Bungie Day. The seventh day of the seventh month.

That means gamerpics and a dashboard theme available tommorrow only for free. Additionally the map Cold Storage is released tommorrow, also for free. But that will remain free forever.

There's been a movement in the Halo community to raise the Campaign kill count to seven billion by Bungie Day. As of now it is 6,922,391,429 so spread the word and play Crow's Nest or Cortana on Heroic. A lot.

Pics of Cold Storage:

Just so you know, I didn't die.

I finally finished uploading the Jet Force Gemini speed run, that one was long. I also have a new video editor, Pinnacle Studio, so I can split the M-PEG4 and QuickTime movies of Halo 2 speed runs into manageable segments. And I will upload Halo 3 speed runs when someone gets lucky enough to successfully run Sierra 117 and The Covenant on Legendary.

Here is a list of speed runs I have:

  • Metroid Prime
  • Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
  • Metroid Fusion
  • Super Metroid
  • Donkey Kong Country
  • Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest
  • Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!
  • Pokémon Red
  • Fire Emblem
  • Super Mario Sunshine
  • Jet Force Gemini
  • Halo: Combat Evolved
  • Halo 2
  • Halo 3 (coming soon)

So, if anyone has any suggestions I will see what I can find.

Super Samus has come

[UPDATE] I won't be uploading the ending, some weird glitch has been going on and I want to start the Super Mario Sunshine speed run. It's no huge loss, there's probably 100 or so videos of it on GameSpot. Sorry for inconvenience.

So, I've finally begun uploading the speed run of Super Metroid from Speed Demos Archive *waits for applause, receives none, moves on*. And that's about it actually. The speed run's in 6 parts with a total play time of about 32 minutes andthen there's the ending so enjoy.

And awhileago I finally got my copy of FEAR back, it's a great game, and Halo 3 is amazing. Play it if you can. . . NOW! Or not, it don't matter to me.
