After having switched internet providers, I had to go through the process of setting up wireless on both of my PS3s. Normally this is very simple, and in the past 2 years or so I've had my phat PS3 errors that arise have been fixed fairly quickly. However, this time my phat PS3 shows low signal(30% and below) and has difficulty obtaining IP address and internet connection. On the other hand, despite spending around an hour trying to get my PS3 phat to connect to the internet, my PS3 slim took less than 3 minutes to connect to the internet and displayed signals 3x stronger(90% and higher). Now many people suggest the distance from the router makes a difference, but in this situation my PS3s r basically right next to each other and the slim is actually further from the router than the phat one.

I've got a few ideas on this issue:

Over time the wireless card in the PS3 weakens.

The PS3 slim models are equipped with a much stronger wireless card.

The router is somehow restricting connection in the phat PS3.

Any help on solving this dilemma would be much appreciated. :)

The replacement laser was only $16. It was worth a try since it wasn't too hard to replace it. Nowhere near as hard as fixing an Xbox 360's RROD. Also, I think trying to fix it myself only voids the free warranty. I'm sure Nintendo would be willing to fix it as long as i pay them. There's nothing for them to lose so why not?

The warranty expired a while ago. That's why I tried to fix it myself. Buying a new disc drive is way cheaper than paying for a new Wii. I'm not gonna lose hope though. I still think there's a way to fix it. I probably missed a step or something.

For a while my Wii made a loud noise and it eventually stopped reading certain games and having disc reading errors. Then one day it didn't want to read any discs. So I bought a replacement disc reading laser for it off ebay and replaced it. Now the problem is even worse. After I put the disc in the Wii, it ejects it, pulls it back in, then ejects it out of the Wii. I looked at videos on how to replace the laser and I have no idea what I did wrong. I would appreciate it if someone could please help me with this problem. I would rather not have to buy another disc drive.

EDIT:The Wii is accepting discs but not even spinning and reading them. I think it's just a problem with the disc drive itself and not the laser. So I'll have to buy a new disc drive off ebay. Thank you all for the help anyways.

I think the solution is just calling Nintendo and sending it in to be repaired for like $75. Hopefully I get the same Wii back because I want to keep all my data.

I never bought a warranty and my Wii is nearly 2 years old. I really don't think I can send it to Nintendo.

It started with my Wii making a loud sound and occassionally a "cannot read disc error" where I had to reset the Wii. Then it got worse and the disc error only happened to certain games like Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Wii Fit. Then one day, the Wii stopped reading any discs. Is there any way to fix this or is my Wii pretty much screwed? If I have to buy a new one, I'll just wait and buy the black one when it comes out.

The only problem I know of with the Wii is the disc drive making a really loud noise and eventually stop reading discs. It just happened to me, but I'm not too sad because I'm bored of it anyways.

I use the original theme with Blue Screen of Death wallpaper. It freaks my friends out when they turn on the PS3 and see the Blue Screen of Death. xD
