I never thought I would be saying this, but..... although I enjoyed the game, it was a bit of a letdown. And I'll lay odds that my reason may match others. Here it is..... I played System Shock 2. I'd love to know how many people who rave about this game ever played SS2. I may get flamed for this, but I enjoyed ss2 way more than BS. Ah... an ironic abreviation. To many of you who have not played ss2, alot of the elements may seem new and fresh to you, but 95 percent of them were from ss2. Don't get me wrong. I understand them putting them in this game too. They would be crazy not to and I'm glad they did. It's hard to put into words what the ss2 with it's slightly better than quake 2 graphics had that bs lacked, but the best one word that described it for me was.....delight. And that delight was the product of.....emersion and atmosphere and....true fear. It's almost like the difference between the movies Alien... and Aliens. I'll bet that at least some of the ss2 fans know exactly where I'm coming from. Perhaps I can't help being a bit let down since in my opinion SS2 was the best game of all time and I enjoyed it even more than Half Life 2. Yes 2. They were unable to reproduce the dread. If you only care about eye candy, then, I suppose you may not agree with me, but even with dated graphics, the level design, the voice acting and even the sound and music in SS2 were better, but you would have to experience it to understand. Nevertheless, congrats to Ken L. for making a game that can wow the people who did not play ss2 over and over and over like me. But for some reason the magic isn't there. Perhaps its the lack of pathos since the badies were more irritating selfish stuck up elites or low life criminals. Both types feeling sorry for themselves and too stupid and self-absorbed to realise that the place was already beyond saving. I only felt sorry for the little sisters. In SS2, the vibe was different. it was darker yet with traces of black humor and it actually felt like more of a tragedy than a bunch of proud selfish godless utopians getting what they deserved. Oh well, back to WOW.
