Yeah, no exclusives at launch. That sure is a "winning plan"....for Sony. Spencer is the living embodiment of the old Einsteinian definition of insanity: Trying the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. It sounds like he's learned absolutely nothing from this generation's resounding defeat. The next generation is already over, and M$ has lost again.
@MigGui: I understood it perfectly, and my point still stands. Sony creating must-have exclusives for the PS4 was one of the key reasons for the system's runaway success this gen. Obviously Matt Booty (and presumably you as well) doesn't think so.
By not providing any next-gen exclusives, there will be less incentive for people to purchase the system at launch. This may very well result in Sony once again achieving an insurmountable lead in terms of hardware sales.
Assuming Matt Booty and the other decision makers at MS Studios thoroughly analyzed why the Xbox lost this generation, but more importantly, why Sony won, it's difficult to imagine them all looking at the success the PS4 enjoyed with its formidable library of exclusives and concluding, "Nah, we don't need to follow that formula". Were these really the smartest executives a powerful corporation like Microsoft could recruit?
One of the primary reasons why the One lost so badly this Gen was its lack of exclusive titles. Yes, the original One's slight but significant hardware inferiority compared to the Ps4 at launch helped dig the console an early grave, but the lack of any "must-have" exclusive titles over its lifespan helped keep it in the ground.
This announcement is both baffling and inexplicable. It's as if they learned nothing over the past seven years. The reason the One lost this generation is multifaceted, and it sounds as if they're prepared to address only one of the system's failings for the next generation.
Can't wait to play this. I'll be too busy with a work-related projects to play until Thursday, but after that, I'm diving in. The multiplayer actually looks better than I thought it would. Outstanding job by Naughty Dog.
