Just finished my first playthrough of DS3 on Hard and to be honest I didn't really enjoy it all that much but I still want to try it on co-op. I did practically no weapon crafting in this first playthrough so I'm still running around with an Evangelizer and Plasma Cutter with a bunch of +Damage circuits, but I'm more than willing to switch to whatever works best for co-op. Yes, you have to shoot the glowing part of the tentacle. What I did was I got as close as I could to the tentacle, ignored the necromorphs for as long as I could, and just unloaded on the glowing part of the tentacle. You will get hit by the necromorphs, but the key is to do away with the tentacle as fast as possible, then run to the next area that opens up. Don't worry if some necromorphs are still left alive after you've blown up the tentacle, the wave of destruction will take care of them.
