Well, after reading about the recently announced 2DS, Nintendo has sold an additional black/blue Nintendo 2DS. It pretty much fits exactly my tastes:
-No 3D! I know, I know; the whole idea is to utilize the new features of a new console, especially the one it's named after. But I get motion sickness kinda easily when reading/looking at a screen, and my eyes aren't really that strong when looking at stuff like that. So I never really used the 3D anyway when playing on a friend's.
-$40 cheaper than the original! This was probably the biggest thing that caught my eye. I've been wanting an XL for a while, mostly because of the better battery life and bigger screens. BUT, being a "poor" college student, when I see $130 versus $200, and both can play 3DS games, then $130 wins. Perhaps one day I will, but I don't see a point given my current circumstances.
-Same day as Pokemon! I need something to play Pokemon Y on (I mean come on, look at my name). And, again, this would be the cheapest way as 2DS + Y = original 3DS (we'll omit tax for now). It's like Nintendo WANTS me to buy it.
However, there are some things I'm not super fond of about it, which were briefly mentioned above.
-Same battery life as the original. I'm actually not sure how long this is, but I've heard from friends that it's not the best. I'll never take it with me in the car, and if I'm going home/to school, the charger will be there. But I don't like the idea of being "plugged in" all the time. We'll see I guess
-Screen size. I guess it's not a big deal, but I like the idea of bigger screens since portability isn't an issue for me.
After examining the pros and cons, I think the 2DS is best fit for my wants. I'll be looking forward to playing it at or around October 12th =]
