It was built from the money made from the faithful throughout the last 2000 years. There used to be no choice over faith in the middle ages. There was no choice about where you worked or where your wages went either.

Most churches suggest a 10% tithe from the wages of their faithful.

Yes they would.Just look at what Mother Theresa did, and she's just one person.

Mother Teresa (at least you could spell her name properly) is famous for setting up missions. These missions perpetuate religion and glorify poverty. Mother Teresa said "suffering was a gift from God". Mother Teresa's order never published an audit over where her money went, although she received donations from many dubious people. When ill, she chose Californian clinics for recovery. Many have said that more people are trapped in poverty and child-birth because of MT's "Missionaries of Charity".

I think the Red Cross have done far more good - and they haven't asked people to believe in any crazy faith, while helping them.

Your original statement was about the catholic church giving money to charity. To me, that meant giving money to themselves - I found it quite ironic...

You said that the church was a non-profit organisation. How do they get all those huge court settlement sums for faithful children suffering abuse at the hands of the clergy from?

My stupid opinion is that the church should not have tax exempt status, as the money used is not all for charitable ends. The majority of church funds go towards pervading the particular religion, rather than helping people regardless of their faith. I'm talking about wages for clergy, missions to round up the defenseless into the faith and the funding of evangelical media that spreads these bad ideas around the globe. I think they are relevent to this topic. If you don't, then you don't have to respond.

Alright maybe I got a little upset. I apologize. Mother Teresa did so much to relieve the sufferings of poor people. you make it sound like she tried to make it worse. She was talking about her own suffering not the world's. She never wanted other people to suffer. That's where you erred in that statement.

As for the court settlements. I don't agree with that either. I never did say that Catholics are perfect. What those Priests did was wrong period. But they are just a few priests not the whole Catholic church.

I'm a Catholic and I go to church every Sunday. I live in that community and I tell you that Catholics are very active with charities. The churches are always participating in food drives and other such activities. Charity is not just about how much money you give. To say that the Catholic church only aids Catholics is a lie. Also, those ideas that the Catholic church tries to spread are only bad in your opinion. Many people don't share that point of view. Besides, why does it bother you so much? It's not as though Catholic's support violence(not anymore anyway), so what do you care if they believe in God or not. If you disagree, then fine. Nobodys putting a gun to your head.

Well it's really late and I have to get to bed. Sorry if i've been a little hot-headed. I don't really want to talk about it anymore. We obviously share different points of view and it's unlikely that either of us are going to change the other's mind. Personally I don't think that churches should be taxed(and I mean churches of all religions).

I go to a church but i don't rly see how churches arn't profitable, my church in the last 6 years have moved to a permanent residence almost paid of the mortgage and bought another 2 properties to expand into as well as having improved the audio equipment we have from cheap crapy stuff to a $10000 sound system...still not the best but still, i don't quite like saying that the church is an organisation, makes it sound more like a business but yes they do turnover a profitreven9288
