I run my games at 1024x768 aswell. A really high resolution is nice, but in most games don't add alot. Id rather put details on high then graphics on high.
Companys make alot of promises, but at the end of the day they most of the time either make a game made for a different audience (for the graphics or gameplay for example). Also quite alot of sequels build on on the previous game's popularity.
I think more people just dont use it rather then actually hate it. Personally I like Steam, but theres always a danger that if it does get hacked you lose alot of games (and the money/time you put in them).
Quality. That said I dont mind quantity alot either (not in like 100+ games, but about 30), but thats only if the quality isn't hurt and to have a choice about what game to play, because there are alot of genres out there and alot of games of the same genre dont play alike. Vampire the masquerade Bloodlines is the best quality game I have, so much choice on clan and build.
Am I glad I bought GTA 4 instead of this. Was difficult to make the decision, but after all I made the right one. I also feel bad for the people who have bought it. A refund would be in order, but most likely wont happen.
