Go Ahead, Guess What This Blog Is About! I Dare You!

For the 90% of you that guessed Super Smash Bros Brawl, ding-ding-ding. You're correct. I picked up SSBB a day later than everyone else (Monday the 10th, for those of you who'd prefer not to use your brain), and probably haven't played it nearly as much, but that doesn't change the fact that this game is freakin awesome.

I'm not even going to try and explain why this game is so great, because I wouldn't be able to put it into words. It's the same SSB you've always loved except with more levels, more characters, more content (i.e - the SSE takes about 8 hours to beat), and more freakin awesomeness.

So yeah, just thought I'd let you all know. Peace. 8)

As expected, I got an Xbox 360 for Christmas, and needless to say it's been dominating my time. With my 360 I got ...

Forza Motorsport 2 (came with console)
Marvel Ultimate Alliance (came with console)
Lost Planet: Extreme Condition (Rental from uncle)
Call of Duty 2
1 Month of XBL
1 Extra controller

First I played Call of Duty 2, and have pretty much banged through the single player the last couple of days. I'm about 3/4 done, and it's incredibly awesome. I expected it to be rather bland, runningaround and shooting people while getting occassional objectives. I don't know why, it just feels really epic and almost movie like. After I finish it I want to try going through it again on veteran. I've played some of the multiplayer and it's really fun, it's just that you usually only get like five people at a time. Not bad, not great either though.

Next I played GRAW2, which isalso incredible. The single player is really fun, although a bit deeper thanI expected. The multiplayer however is super addicting. It's kind of tough since 2-3 hits will kill you, but once you get used to it it's really fun.

I started Lost Planet today, but while on the first mission I started craving GRAW. :P So I've still got that game to play, Forza, and Marvel. I'm gonna need a lot more time. :)

P.S. - My gamertag is DewRequired, if you want to play GRAW2 or CoD2 sometime send me a friend request.

You See Kids, Back In My Day ...

[Disclaimer: The topic title that enticed you to click on my blog has absolutely nothing to do with my blog. Proceed soldier.]

It doesn't feel like a year, it hardly feels like half a year, but on this day exactly one year ago, I got the Nintendo Wii. Was it worth it? Heck yeah. Is it everything I hoped it would be? Kind of. The Wii is awesome, and in and of itself it's an incredible machine. Games like Super Mario Galaxy and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess prove that. The problem is that there simply aren't enough great games for it. If I had the money I would pick up games like Metroid Prime 3 (whichI will definitely be buying eventually), Medal of Honor: Heroes 2, Ghost Squad, maybe evenZack & Wiki, but it's just not worth it. Most of you are probably thinking, "It's Christmas stupid, what are gifts for anyway?!" but that's another reason why they're not worth it.

As planned, I will be getting an Xbox 360 for Christmas (i.e. - in less than 24 hours). As you could haveimagined, I'm super pumped. I'm getting the Pro Holiday Bundle which includes Forza Motorsport 2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance. I'll definitely play Forza, not sure I'll dig into Marvel too much though. ;) I've already got Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 and an extra controller. I've also got Lost Planet: Extreme Condition (which I'm rentingfor an extended period of time), andwill be getting Call of Duty 2tomorrow. I'll also be getting a 3 month XBL card.

So now how does this relate to the Wii again? Let's try explaining with a check list ...

Why OhhSnap Can't Get Any New Wii Games For A Very Long Time :(

1: OhhSnap has no money.
2: OhhSnap will not have any extra money from Chritmas.
3: OhhSnap will not be getting any Wii games for Christmas.
4: OhhSnap is getting an Xbox 360 and will use any money he has to buy games for it.
5: Wii games don't support "speaking in the third person" which OhhSnap is dissapointed by.

... I have no idea how I got onto this topic. Anyway, Merry Christmas everyone! Enjoy the food. Enjoy the company. Enjoy the presents. But most of all, don't forget the reason for the season. Jesus Christ's birth.

Topic's are overrated.

So here I am, about seven months removed from my last blog, still breathing, still playing games of course. A couple game related updates worth mentioning ...

I bought SSX Blur and Madden 07 over the Summer, they were on sale. Good games, nothing too amazing about them.
I played through Metroid Prime in August, for the first time beating it all the way through, and that's easily one of my favorite games of all time. Such an immersive game, I can't even begin to describe it. (Granted, I used a guide, but that didn't stop me from loving it :))
I haven't bought a new game in months ...

... you know why? Because I've finally decided that I'm gonna get the 360. Yeah, I was gonna get it for my birthday, but I ended up buying an iPod video. (Glad I did, I love that thing) I also bought a digital camera over the summer (Casio EX-z75, I recommend it), so there wasn't much money left for a 360. So around August/September I decided I was gonna save up for a 360 and get it for Christmas. This is also means I have yet to play Phantom Hourglass (it brings me inner-pain to say that  ) or Metroid Prime 3, but I'm set for buying the 360. I need to make around $30 and I'd have enough to buy ...

Xbox 360 Pro Bundle (w/ Forza & Marvel)
and GRAW2

Then tragedy struck. I logged on to Gamespot yesterday and what was the #1 story? The Super Mario Galaxy review. So being a Wii owner what choice did I have but to check out the review? Then I see that Super Mario Galaxygot a 9.5, a 9.5! Only the fourth one Gamespot has given out all year, and tied for the best scoring game this year. So I watch the video review, check out the Gametrailers review, the IGN review, before you can say "Holy-Super-Mario-Galaxy-Batman!" I'm in love with Super Mario Galaxy.

Before this amazing event, I didn't plan on getting SMG in the near future. Mostly because it would have to wait until Christmas, and I'd be busy playing my 360 that I wouldn't want to turn on the Wii, but this games looks too good to wait 3+ months for. So here is my revised and totally fool-proof (or at least partially) plan:

Instead of getting GRAW2 ($40), I'll buy SMG ($50).
I'll still have GRAW1 to play, along with the two packaged 360 games and countless demos (I'm a sucker for free).

The end result? I've got an incredible game to play from Monday until Christmas while I shiver with excitement over getting a 360. And I'll only have to make $10 more!

And that's pretty much it. Although one final thing worth mentioning, The Bourne Ultimatum was incredibly awesome! If you don't buy the DVD (when it comes out), well, you'rea bad person.

Paper Makes The World Go Round

In case you didn't already know based on the title, today (or yesterday actually) I picked up Super Paper Mario. *Trumpets Sound* I've only played it for about an hour so far, but it seems like a pretty fun game. I've actually never played a Paper Mario game before, so I don't know what to expect nor do I know if I'll enjoy the game. Flipping from 2D to 3D has proven to add a new 'dimension' (hah! pun intended!) to the game and makes exploring each section all the more fun. I'll hopefully have a review up within the next few weeks.

Up next on my list ... ah, yes ... teh Exbawx Threesickstea! Ok, I promise I'll never do that again. :P Anyway, the initial shock over the Elite has passed over me and now I'm certain I'll be getting the Premium (assuming I can scrounge up enough money). The only thing I'm really questioning right now is what games to get. There are three games (aside from GRAW2, I definitely want to get that) that I'm interested in. Major League Baseball 2k7, Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, and Call of Duty 3 (or 2, not positive yet). If you've played any of them, your opinions would be appreciated. ;)

That's about all I can think of for now. How's everyone doing?

Mixed Reactions To Xbox 360 Elite

First of all, handwriting is not my thing. Whenever I'm going to write something I usually just do it on the computer. Not this time. I'm pleased to say that I actually wrote this on paper before typing it up. So in conclusion, I want to thank Gamespot for inspiring me to write something. It's not much, but it's a step in the right direction for me. Now on with the blog ...

Today, Microsoft announced the Xbox 360 Elite, otherwise known as Project Zephyr. The Xbox 360 Elite will have an HDMI port and will come with HDMI cables. Neither of the above really effect me though since I don't have HDMI cables. The first thing that interests me about the Elite is that it's black. I think it looks much better than the white, especially the controller. ^.^

The second thing that interests me is the hard drive space. 120GB is alot more appealing than 20GB, don't you agree? The Premium X360 still has plenty of space, but having an option of 6x the amount of space would make anyone feel a little less confident about buying the Premium.

And then there's the fact that it's just $80 more expensive than the Premium. Not to mention that it's conveniently $20 cheaper than the PS3 20GB version. If the Premium gets a price drop than I'll stick with that. If not, I can guarantee I'll think about buying the Elite much more than once. And while I'm thinking about that, I'm sure I'll also think about the fact that I'd be just $20 away from buying a PS3. Then I get overloaded with confusion, and start back from square one. (Bear in mind this is just a prediction :P)

In the end I'll probaby end up just buying the premium, since it's still cheaper and covers what I need. In the mean time, mass confusion shall ensue! Prepare yourselves ...

Games And Such

Agents are ... GO!!! It's the strangest thing. By now, EBA's (Elite Beat Agents) songs are getting a little repetitive, I'm stuck on the same level, and I'm not that amazing at the game, yet still completely in love with it. It's just so addicting! When you nail a song (or even a fast section of a song) you get this feeling that makes you want to play all day. ^.^ I love my MKDS and NSMB, but EBA is rapidly moving up the ranks towards favorite DS game.

Next up, Super Paper Mario. After going to EBgames a few days ago and making $50 trading in old games, I've decided to spend my new found cash on Super Paper Mario (Wii). After reading the interview in NP about it, I'm really excited. I'm not a big fan of total RPG's so SPM is definately the most appealing game of the Paper Mario series so far. Unfortunately, I haven't played any Paper Mario games before this one. I want to pick up TTYD in the future, and maybe even the orignal Paper Mario if it comes out on the VC. Going back to SPM, I'm looking foward to the platforming part of the game and it seems like there will be minor strategy involved (switching from 2D to 3D to find secrets, new route, etc).

Also, I'm about three weeks removed from buying something off of the Virtual Console. The last game I bought was Ocarina of Time (bought it the Monday it came out, about 10 seconds after it came out :P). While we haven't gotten many great games since then, I'd still like to buy a few in the near future. I definately want to buy Kid Icarus (again, thanks to an NP article).

I have a confession to make regarding the Virtual Console. I've never played Super Mario 64. When the N64 was going strong I was about 7 years old, and didn't really ask for new video games. Since it's been on the VC I've wanted to buy it, but there were more games that interested me. Do you guys think it would be worth it to spend $10 on SM64 if I've never played it before?

I'm also thinking about picking up Super Ghouls N Ghosts, because I've heard alot of praise for that game. But until I can scrounge up the money for the VC games I'm interested in, I'll be attempting to finish Kirby's Adventure on the VC and spending every spare minute playing EBA. 8)

You Have The Right To Remain Funky

Last night, I picked up Elite Beat Agents at EBgames. ^.^ It's such a fun game, and the songs are pretty cool too. I'm guessing it's gonna be pretty short lived though, hopefully I'm wrong. It's the first DS game I've bought since Brain Age, which I bought over the 06 Summer. :| EBA is long overdue ...

Also, Gamespot has updated the WYSIWYG editor. I think it looks really cool now, and thanks to the smaller text there's less scrolling in long blog posts. We can also now insert the date and time with ease ...

Pretty cool huh?

Today, Is A Wonderful Day

You know why? Because I finally downloaded Firefox on my laptop. :D Tabbed browsing is quite possibly the greatest thing on the internet. One thing that's annoyed me so far is that it doesn't show my level in my profile, and when I try to install Adobe Flash Player (which I believe is already on our computer :?) it says the download failed. Anyone have any suggestions?

So rather than wasting the rest of this blog, I'll give some usefully useless information. Don't you feel lucky ...

I've been hanging around System Wars more lately. Maybe it's the lack of anything better to do on Gamespot, or maybe it's just my competitive nature. In the end though, I do enjoy it.

So yeah, that's pretty much it for now. How are you all doing?

Games To Get In 2007

Below is mostly just a list of games that I'm interested in buying in 07. (Not a complete list, but most of the games I'm interested in are below)

Nintendo Wii

Super Paper Mario: I don't know if I want to get this game at launch, but it seems like it'll be well worth the $50.

SSX Blur: Yes, I know it's out already. It seems like a really fun sports/arcade game but $50? It's the only Wii game I'm interested in that's out right now, but I can't pull myself to spend that kind of money on a snowboarder. However, if you bring that price down to $30 or less I can definately see the light.

Super Mario Galaxy: Being one of the few people who found Super Mario Sunshine, I'm definately looking foward to SMG. The downside for me right now is we don't know when it's coming out. That makes it really tough for me to get hyped, but it's still a definite pick-up.

Nintendo DS

Elite Beat Agents: From what I've seen, it looks to be one of the most addicting games on the DS. For just $35, I don't see why not to pick this game up. (If I can scrounge up $15, I'll hopefully be getting it sometime this week)

Yoshi's Island DS: New Super Mario Bros is one of my favorite DS games, and Yoshi's Island is another platformer that seems to be a bit longer. Not overwhelmingly excited about this game, but if it's convenient I'd definately want to buy it.

The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass: This one's a no-brainer for me. Handheld Zelda? Easily worth the price tag.

Playstation Portable

Ratchet And Clank: Size Matters: If it weren't for the announcement of this game at E3, I probably would've sold my PSP by now. The only real problem for me is convincing myself to buy it, since I have so many other games I want.

I'm sure there are other games I will be buying, but those are the big ones for me. (SSBB and MP3 are other big ones, but we don't know enough about them yet and they may even be pushed to 08) But, I plan on getting a 360 over the Summer and if there's a price drop I'll hopefully get a PS3 for Christmas (that's questionable, but I'm definately getting a 360). So, I'll list the games I would want for those systems ...

Xbox 360

Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2: I played GRAW at a friends house last Summer, and I absolutely loved the game. While I haven't played an insane amout of shooters, GRAW was certainly the best I've ever played. Since GRAW2 is now out and I'd assume that most online players would convert to the newer game, it would make more sense to buy that one.

Call Of Duty 3: Same situation as GRAW. Played CoD2 (at the same friends house :P) and loved it. CoD3 got the same score, pretty similar feedback, and the online community will be shifting towards it so I'd buy 3 over 2.

Burnout Revenge: It was either Burnout or NFS, and I already have NFS for the PS2 so Burnout wins here. I've played the demo and it's a really fun, satisfying racer.

Major League Baseball 2K7: I haven't bought a baseball game since MVP 05 (such an amazing game, why must they loose their license  ) but MLB 2k7 seems like a must have for me. I hear they hired a guy from the MVP staff to work on this game, and it's gotten pretty great feedback so I don't see why not to give this one a shot.

Playstation 3

MotorStorm: If you took away Motorstorm, I have pretty much zero motivation to buy a PS3. I have absolutely no idea what it is, but I love MotorStorm. I've only played a demo but it's simply fantastic. If the PS3 has 3 or 4 more exclusives as great as MotorStorm, $600 would feel a whole lot cheaper.

Virtua Fighter 5: Fighting games are a genre that I've enjoyed in the past but never really got into. VF5 seems to be one of the best PS3 games available right now, so even if I'm not a 'huge' fan of the genre I'll still buy it.

NBA 2K7: Another demo that I enjoyed. Not positive about this one, especially if I'm getting the PS3 at the end of the year. If I'm gonna be dishing out $600 though, I want to have a few games to pick from.

That's about it for now, what are your thoughts on the games? What games would you like to get this year?
