@ico92: Hey, I mostly learned how to play with Super SF2 Turbo and it's my current main game... I think it's great for beginners. You can play a lot of older fighters on GGPO using your PC. You may also be interested in Persona 4 Ultimax or whatever it's called, coming out in a month. It's an airdasher that's a lot easier for beginners to get into while maintaining core 2D fighter concepts.

@ico92: I wouldn't call it the most complex fighting game, I mean it has its oddities and an absolutely massive skill-ceiling, but its basic mechanics are fairly straightforward to learn and most combos aren't difficult (usually just a hit cancelled into a special or super, 3rd Strike isn't combo-heavy).

I'd start off with this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ouNAvaUgISE I think Ep. 5 has the good stuff, but that series is worth watching to get you in the third strike mood. Then get some character goodness from Renic: he has character tutorials for a lot of the cast: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9kJHU1xlrk&list=UUZOFLZI5g7riHqGooYuGIUw The SRK wiki has some great all-around info: http://wiki.shoryuken.com/Street_Fighter_3:_3rd_Strike

Don't be put off by the parry mechanic and as you're learning I wouldn't spend much time with the parry trials or trials in general. it's important to understand your normals and their usage, your specials/supers and their usage, and general mindgames unique to 3rd strike. At its basic level, a parry is another guess/mind-game on wakeup (and neutral, and air, but you dont have to worry about all that when you're just beginning) that you will see explained in the Gootecks vid series and can be utilized in such a way as you learn the rest of the game.

The main things you may have trouble with if you were never really a serious player in fighters is doing the special move motions with a d-pad. It'll take some practice, especially the super motions (and keep in mind with supers, that you can often buffer an attack in there, e.g. qcf, d+LP, down-forward, forward, to cancel a cr.LP into a QCFx2 Super.. you'll get the hang of that eventually). If you have trouble with quarter-circle, half-circle, SRK motions, you can always play a charge character in the game as well which I find easier to get started with.

Good luck.

Right click on desktop, Personalize, on the bottom of that window click on "Window Color", change the Item drop down to Window, and you can change the background colour there.

I've tried this. It only changes a few boxes, but not the explorer background. And it seems completely inconsistent with what's changes. Should I restart explorer.exe?

That's weird, because I did a quick test when I wrote that and changed my Windows Explorer background to grey. I didn't have to restart the service or anything.

I never played the first one, but I found K&L 2 to be a really fun co-op experience. The game is short but quite interesting, and easily worth the price. When you play on hard, the firefights are pretty intense. I found myself using a lot of different weapons, blindfire and constant repositioning. It kept the gameplay pretty fresh throughout the game.

Did it have auto lock on?  I didn't notice anything like that when they were firing from the motorcycle.. in fact the development video specifically mentioned that the game was going to be hard and shooting someone from a moving bike wasn't going to be easy.

Anyway, I'm fairly interested in this.. tbh it doesn't sound like exactly what I loved about Road Rash, which was.. everything.. but it's definitely a project I'm interested in.  They're right in that there hasn't been any game like it for years.

people have the right to hate whatever they want, hipster or not, BUT I LOVE BF3.  Big BF fan and BF3 is my favorite FPS and one of the most long lasting and addicting games available.  Cant wait for BF4 though ;).

NaveedLife

Out of curiosity, were you a big player of previous Battlefield games? (before Bad Company)

My friends and I play the game from time to time.. it does have its merits, but it's also rage-inducing.  The game feels very unresponsive in terms of hit detection at times, that's what I notice the most in Close Quarters.  The shooting mechanics in BF have always felt terrible, so that's nothing new.  I've gotten used to it over the years.

However, it doesn't even really feel like a true sucessor to BF2.  The maps and flight ceilings are laughably tiny in comparison, and vehicles feel like junk and not particularly powerful.  They can be easily destroyed by infantry all the time, which is something that was quite a bit more difficult in previous games.

I could rant about lots of little annoyances, such as the ridiculous lens flare, terrible 'realism filter' and horrible web-based server browser.  But let's just say overall it's a serious letdown in every practical way except graphics, if you're coming from the BF series as a fan of BF2 or 2142 like I am, and have heard the same from people who played 1942 and Vietnam.

I feel like DICE focused on the wrong elements when developing a BF2 sucessor.

Huh... my friend and I have been pretty much playing only this game since it was released.  It's really one of the best purchases I've made over the past few years, and a great co-op experience.  It's just been a ton of fun.  Overall I like it better than RE5 as well, but 5 still does have some mechanics I miss; item sharing, inventory system, for example.

The controls aren't perfect or anything, but it hasn't really hampered the experience.

What about NFS Underground? Didn't it have a drag race mode thing where you would have to switch lanes regularly to dodge traffic?
