I wouldn't know, but dark side of the moon sure as hell is, which is why I wouldn't know how good The Wall is.

I mostly listen to metal from various sub-genres, lately it's been mostly deathcore and Mastodon.

Most of it sounds like poppier thrash to me. Avenged Sevenfold and Trivium, for example.

Does Mastodon count as metalcore? I really like Mastodon.

I personally consider them progressive metal with hardcore influences.

pretty indifferent, I'll occasionally listen to Killswitch Engage or All That Remains, but most bands in the genre fall in the range of "meh" to "bleh". However, I've recently started getting really into a few deathcore bands, like Whitechapel, Suicide Silence, and As Blood Runs Black.

I don't think I'd call it the greatest, but I love the breakdown from "In Dying Days" by As Blood Runs Black, where he just starts shouting "Bring the Mother ****in' Ruckus"

it starting to look like this decade will end up a lot like the '80s, where nobody notices any of the good bands until we're all looking back and see the underground stuff, just substitute glam metal for emo.

I think the reason why so many people hate slipknot, aside from the "masks = secretly-ugly-posers lulz" issue, is the fact that there often compared to death metal, largely because of the influence taken from the drumming style, but they're not really death metal at all, there more along the lines of nu-ish alt-metal, so if you look at them as a death metal band, the simplicity is going to be somewhat underwhelming.
