[QUOTE="MrSelf-Destruct"]Yeah, that's what they say to cover their own butts. Why do they need to use their own code on the PS3 so badly? I know them fools got computers! I somewhat believe Geohotz intentions were purely focused on cracking the system and nothing else just to say he did, but he knew full well what it would lead to. codezer0
That's not the point. :| It's about being able to run what they want, wherever they want.

I think that's the point for a few. Even though... Why chance ruining things for everyone else just so you can run your own program on a machine that performs so horribly compared to a regular PC? I would like my PS3 to be able to do some more cool things, but it already does enough and I'm not going to chance breaking the experience for others just so I can have a little more. I mean, I get it, but is it really worth it? Just saying.

What's with all this talk of piracy like it's anything that matters at all? If you've ever supported companies like GameFly or GameSpot, you're no better than a pirate. In any of these cases the developer gets NO money. So while some people choose to fill the pockets of corporate fatcats (lol) others may choose to "sample" things online and then buy what they want to see more of, as long as it's not used from GameSpot etc. istuffedsunny
That doesn't make it right, dude. I don't see piracy as a big deal as I too believe that Gamestop, Blockbuster, and Gamefly are doing much more damage, but piracy is still not right. Whether you're a corportate fatcat (lol) or a thief you're still in the wrong.

Turn the baclight down a bit if you can and play in a well lit room. Its not the sole reason for the eyestrain but decreasing all that blinding light can make things a lot more comfortable while your eyes adjust. Just turn you backlight down about half way.

'Does not support piracy'

My ass. This is what this is prime for. I have no idea who GeoHotz was kidding.

Hackers will end up being able to get ISOs. Where there's a will, there's a way is the philosophy of hackers and pirates.

That's why you are here, posting on this forum, and they are there, working on the firmware to make such happen. The guys writing the custom firmware, and the guys int he fail0verflow team, are NOT interested in piracy. They confess that these discoveries can lead to it, but they are choosing to let someone else write the software to make that happen. They themselves are not interested in any of that. Again, the only reason that the ps3 didn't get hacked sooner, was because OtherOS was there, and they didn't need to hack anything to run their own code. The purpose of jailbreaking the iPhone from geohot was so that he could run his own code, without having to pay Apple for some exhorbitant price or approval licensing, or contend with their elizabethan "app approval" process.

Yeah, that's what they say to cover their own butts. Why do they need to use their own code on the PS3 so badly? I know them fools got computers! I somewhat believe Geohotz intentions were purely focused on cracking the system and nothing else just to say he did, but he knew full well what it would lead to.

This is the second topic I read on this, and the second time I read about hacking into the PSN. Now all other points aside, it supports piracy or not, hacking the PS3, and all the others might be valid or not, but in order to hack into the PSN that means that they would have to hack into Sony's servers. I do not thinkSony iswilling that to happen. It's like, oh just let me hack into Bank of America and put $1 million dollars in my account. You cannot just hack into a companies business, its illegal.

FIREKNIGHT19
This is really the only point that matters. Piracy has been an issue for years on all other consoles and they are all doing just fine. The common gamer just wants to play games and will gladly pay to do so. A bunch of hackers installing homebrew on their console won't hurt anyone. The only thing they could do to screw this up for the rest of us is messing around with PSN, but they can't do that unless they can hack Sony's servers, too. Some master keys for signing software isn't going to do that.
