E3 2011 Press Conferences Opinions

by on

E3 2011 Press Conferences Opinions.

I have watched all the conferences now and I wanted to give my opinions on them. (Yes, I know it a little late for this.)

6. Konami

They had their taped in show before E3 showing off several games like the Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater for 3DS and Pro Evolution Soccer 2012. They announced Zone of the Enders HD Collection and Metal Gear Solid HD Collection for PS3 and Xbox 360, which is great. The only really exciting part for me in the conference is the new Silent Hill: Downpour and Never Dead. The "transfarring" service sounds interesting with you transferring you saves to and from PS3, PSP and PSvita but if you have to buy the game twice then I don't know if it going to catch on. Overall the conference was ok.

5. EA

They showed some really exciting games like Mass Effect 3(Get ready It's the year of the 3s!), Battlefield 3, and Overstrike. FIFA 2012 gets the interesting football club social online service and make me want the game. In contrast they didn't really talk in dept about Madden 2012 which making me not want it. I think the game I'm excite the most from their conference is the Need for Speed: The Run because I like that constant race and be chase style even while on foot across the country. SSX is back! and this is my runner up in being excited about from this conference. I don't think The Sims social is my cup of tea. Star Wars: The Old Republic looks good when it going to come out, since this was shown last year's E3. Overall EA had a really good conference.

4. Nintendo

They showed only one Wii game which is Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword(which is looking fantastic) and no DS games but they did announced a free Legend of Zelda: Four Swords for the DSiware. On the 3DS is where Nintendo shined this year with Super Mario, Mario Kart, Kid Icarus: Uprising, Luigi's Mansion 2, and surprise announcement of Smash Bros.(also on Wii U). Now the Wii U I am still trying to wrap my head around it. The more I think about the more I see potential in it. I am concern the price will the be high for console and for getting additional controllers but I think most games will allow for a variety of controllers choices from Wii mote to Classical Controller to Wii U controller. Also I am concern the that Sony will be able to make the PSvita and PS3 do most the functions of the Wii U though hardware updates. While Playing games on the controller is interesting I think using it as a 2nd screen or window like in the Motion Tracker in Aliens: Colonial Marines and that golf demo is what going to be the its strongest point. Nintendo is getting some 3rd party support for the Wii U with games like Tekken, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Assassin's Creed, Batman: Arkham City, and Dirt. Overall Nintendo had a good conference but I am disappointed with them not showing more Wii and DS games especially when there are Wii and DS games coming like Kriby's Mass Attack(DS) and Mario Party 9(Wii), they just didn't show it at the conference.

3.Microsoft

Call of Duty: MW3(yep) look great no real surprise about that but the new Tomb Raider looks awesome. It looks like it going to be deep and shows how Lara gets molded into what she is in the classic series. The only thing about it is I was feeling slightly weird (I guess I have a not so clean mind lol) with the groans, moans, and screams in the demo. Some of the Kinect integrated games looks interesting like Forza 4's head tracking (and maybe combine that with some wheel and petal setup), Mass Effect 3's voice commands, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier's gunsmith and gun controls, and Fables: The Journey's horse steering and magic conjuring. I think the true strength of Kinect will be how games will use it in a natural way perhaps while still using a controller. The Disneyland Kinect also looks interesting walking around the park and mini games. Sesame Street: Once upon a Monster looks very interactive in a great way with following along with Elmo and Cookie Monster. The Kinect Sports Season 2 looks the same as the first one and the football game is not impressing me through the golf looks good. Dance Central 2 and Kinect Star Wars are looking like there are the best pure Kinect games. I wasn't expecting Halo 4 or the Halo: Combat Evolved remake so I would like to see how 343 Industries(at least they have a 4 between those 3's) handle the Halo series. Overall Microsoft had a pretty great conference.

2. Ubisoft

Rayman: Origins is my most excited about game from the Ubisoft conference. The HD 2d platforming action is just fantastic. I really like Driver: San Francisco going back to the stunts, racing and having a 70's style. By the way I like the humorous retro take on their games through out the conference. Far Cry 3(pattern yet?) looks pretty fantastic with the whole escape from the island(Lost?) dealing with crazy people. The gameplay looks fluid with shooting and using some stealth. Brothers in Arms: Furious 4(they meant the Furious 5 right?) look interesting but I need to see gameplay to get more excited about it. The Adventures of TinTin: The Game looks great with graphics straight from the movie and with 3d platforming gameplay. Ghost Recon: Future Solider is yet another game that looks fantastic with gunsmith, tactical, cool invisible cameo, co-op, and shooting gameplay. This looks like it with also have a strong online multiplayer. Trackmania 2: Grand Canyon looks good to bad I couldn't hear them talk about since their audio were down. The Raving Raddids Alive and Kicking uhmm . . . no comment(I would like to kick one, though.). Rocksmith is interesting especially because of using true to life instruments and learning how to actually play. Just Dance 3(*coughs*) just look like more of the same. Assassin's Creed: Revelations is yet another game that looks fantastic continuing the open world roof-to-roof and action gameplay(with a freaking authentic to history boat flamethrower!). Overall Ubisoft had a really great conference they showed some fantastic looking games that got me excited me. They basically brought the games.

1. Sony

Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception(too many 3's!) is looking incredible with the action gameplay and story. The way the boat moves even inside the boat it feels like you are on a boat and the way Drake moves around and handles enemies by stealth and shooting is fantastic. The graphics are also incredible, the water, the shadows, the detailing, the characters. Resistance 3(last 3?) is also looking fantastic with both gameplay and graphics. The Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection will be great and very immersive especially in HD and 3d(more 3s, although that $500 3d TV bundle is a good deal). God of War Origins Collection looks very good as well. I don't think the NBA 2K12 using PS move is good but without the move it looks great. The new Sly Cooper being announced caught me off guard it really sucks that we have to wait to next year for it. Medieval Moves: Deadmund's Quest really looks interesting the way you control your weapons and solve puzzles with motion. Starhawks…space, transforming robots, western cowboy shooter, let that sink in for a moment(sound like an anime to me, how about you?). Yeah, it interesting indeed. Another fantastic looking game is BioShock: Infinite using the sky system(motion sickness?) to get around and style of the game looks pretty unique with deco, futuristic(modern), Victorian, post-war kind of style(hard to place the style). Star Trek shaping up to be great. The main thing that gave Sony the push to be the best conference to me is the Playstation Vita. Now we already knew a lot but it like the cameras, a crisp beautiful touch oled screen, motion controls capabilities, and wifi with a 3G+wifi sku but we learned of the price competitive set at $250 and $300 respectability now this surprising considering with all the technology stuff in this handheld I was thinking that the price would be around $300 to $400. The games they showed running on the system were impressive. Uncharted: Golden Abyss looks like a system seller, simply. ModNation Racers looks great with being able to create more intuitively with the touch screen and touch pads. Also being able to share levels and other content with the PS3 version basically mean have unlimited* (*well, may not be totally unlimited) new levels right out the gate. The same can be said about Little Big Planet. Street Fighter X Tekken is impressive with it basically being the same as the PS3 version even so much so that you will have one profile across the 2 systems and be facing people online playing either system(You might get your butt whooped by someone on PS3 using an arcade stick). To be honest with you the only negative thing I can say about the PSvita is that AT&T is the exclusive 3G carrier for it(I guess Sony didn't learned from Apple). Overall Sony had the best conference because they made me want these impressive games on both systems and to want to get a PSvita.

My Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 Review

by on

With the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 on each console's downloadable services In my mind I was thinking will this be worthy of being called Sonic 4. I have played Sonic every since game number 1 on the Sega Genesis and hold the classics Sonic 1 to Sonic 3 & Knuckles in high regard. I played Sonic 4 to completion including getting all the Chaos Emeralds.

First the graphics are great I really like the details in the backgrounds in every levels and the parallax is done wonderfully. The levels themselves were challenging without being cheap most of the time. There were a lot clever level designs like in the Casino Street Zone with the cannons in Act 3 and the vertical flippers near the end of Act 1.

The music were pretty good with each act getting a variation like in Sonic 3 & Knuckles. My favorite songs in the game were Splash Hill Zone Act 3, Lost Labyrinth Zone Act 3, Mad Gear Zone all acts, and the Egg Station Zone final boss(when facing the giant Robot Robonik). The music in the game feel like it could be on the Genesis.

The game play is where Sonic 4 have most of it issues. When you first play the Game if you have played the classics then you will notice the way Sonic move is different like when you jump Sonic doesn't continue to move in the air if you let go of the d-pad this can cause some issues when you doing precise platforming but it something you'll get use to over time but a more bigger issue stemming from this is when Sonic is rolling(and they hatin' lol) he doesn't gain momentum when going down hill this is a pretty big issue especially in the Casino Street Zone when you in a big U-shape area and have to go up and down to get out of it, in Sonic 1 you have to roll back and forth and keep rolling until you get high enough to get out it, you basically cannot do this in Sonic 4. To get out of it you have to run up the walls and hope you get enough speed to carry you up(spin dash doesn't give enough speed to get out it). The other levels in the game don't have the U-Shape areas so it's not as big of an issue outside of this level. When Sonic first begin to move Sonic(or the controls) feels somewhat stiff it not a big issue but it take away the experience. Outside of these physics based problems the game play was really enjoyable.

I really like the bosses and their twists especially Mad Gear Zone and Egg Station Zone final boss because they also play on your knowledge from the original bosses. The Mad Gear Zone boss for example is from Sonic 2's Metropolis Zone boss with Robonik when you hit him a balloon of Robonik with come out and you suppose to hit it but the Mad Gear's boss the balloon will come out and at first you think "Oh I recognized this" and you when hit it then it will explode and hurt you and this is when you know to avoid it but now you fighting the your urge to hit it because that is what you know from Sonic 2.

Overall Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 is a really enjoyable game but not really worthy of being called Sonic 4 but it came close. Unfortunately the issues hurt the game if these issues wasn't present this game would have a shot at being the best Sonic game and one the best games around. With Sonic 4: Episode 2 coming if it carries same high points of Episode 1 and address the issues and capture that Sega Genesis feel then we'll have a real worthy title and contender. I give Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1(Wii) a 7.5.

My E3 2010 most anticipated games and my E3 games to watch

by on

My most anticipated games out of the 2010 E3.

5. Epic Mickey. This game shows a love of animation with it's cast of characters forgotten from animation's history like Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and the levels based on past cartoons like Steamboat Willie. Not only this game shows a love of animation but their intent on it being a great game with it's story, 2D and 3D platforming, and the play how you want gameplay using the Paint and paint thinner to modify the environment.

4. Donkey Kong Country Returns. Wow, the classic Donkey Kong Country series "Returns" with classic 2D gameplay and fantastic graphics. DK and Diddy Kong side by side are great to see. I really like the silhouetted levels and the new elements like Diddy's jetpack and peanut gun. This is simply great.

3. Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword. This game looks great with using Wii Motion plus for the movement of the sword and items like shooting the bow and rolling and throwing the bombs. I am really impressed with the sword in it's use in puzzles like the eye(s) and you have to read the enemies before you attack like the plants mouths directions and enemies using their sword in a defensive way. I really like the art style it has a good balance of cell-shading and realistic look.

2. Kirby's Epic Yarn. This game is simply beautiful with everything being made out of yarn and fabrics. The creativity is astonishing I and never seen anything like this before, like the yarn firebird (boss?) in the trailer. The gameplay looks fantastic with 2d platforming and multiplayer Co-Op using Prince Fluff.

1. Sonic Colors. This game had very little known about before E3 but when the previews and gameplay videos came out it was shown to have the strengths of Sonic Unleashed daytime 3d sections and 2d platforming that harkens back to the original games with some new power ups that actually fits Sonic. The more I see and learn of this game the more I am convinced that this game will bring Sonic back to the top.

This is my E3 games to watch which includes games for systems I don't have.

Ghost Recon: Future Solider. It looks great with it gameplay using cloaking invisibility.

Gran Turismo 5. Simply looks amazing.

Twisted Metal. True Car combat returns.

Bullet Storm. Powers and Shooting combined.

Star Wars: The Old Republic. Deep gameplay and story.

Halo Reach. Great Shooter and multiplayer

Dance Central. Dance with your whole body and show how munch you can or cannot dance.

Sorcery. Looks good using PS Move.

Kid Icarus: Uprising. Return of Pit. He is sorry for keeping us waiting. (lol)

Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit. Amp up online and gameplay modes with focus on the classic Need for Speed style.

Killzone 3. Jetpack and shooting (and 3D) combined.

Sonic 4. Classic 2D gameplay.

Rayman Origins. Amazing art style and 2D gameplay.

Marvel VS. Capcom 3. Crazy 2D fighter with Deadpool included.

Conduit 2. Wii FPS upgraded.

Goldeneye 007. Classic franchise returns and comes to the Wii

Batman: The Brave and The Bold. Amazing animation and art style like you're watching the cartoon. 2D Beat'em up with a great cast of characters.

E3 2010 Press Conferences Opinions

by on

I have watched all the Conferences and I want to write about who I think had the best press conference at E3 2010.

5. Ubisoft. They had weakest conference at E3 because they didn't focus on the games instead a lot of time went to motion and exercise type games like Your Shape: Fitness Evolved (which was basically repeated from Microsoft conference.) and don't get me wrong these games looked interesting, have purpose, and fun could be had but it took up too much time. The more traditional games they did show like Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, Raving Rabbids in Time, Rayman Origins, Driver: San Francisco, and Ghost Recon: Future Solider looks to be great and definitely worth watching the conference for.

4. Microsoft. They had a great lineup with Gears of War 3, Halo Reach, Fable 3, Call of Duty: Black Ops, and Metal Gear Solid: Rising. Kinect looks promising definitely once 3rd parties start making games for it. The Dance Central game by Ubisoft (interesting they didn't show it at they own conference.) seem to be fun and the strongest game for Kinect and this make me want one. The Kinectimals while interesting took to much time and didn't do it for me. This was a good conference (I kind of I wish I were there at it to the free new Xbox Slim they gave away to the audience there. lol).

3. Sony. They started out showing Killzone 3, which impressed me with the jetpack flying and shooting, and style also the game will look great in 3D. Little Big Planet 2, Portal 2, InFamous 2, and Twisted Metal are looking great. Twisted Metal is a game I feel needed to come to PS3 for a long time and I am glad to see it finally do so. PS Move has some great potential especially from watch Sorcery. Sony had a great conference

2. EA. They surprise me with showing a very strong lineup of games. MMA, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, Dead Space 2, Bulletstorm, Crysis 2, Medal of Honor, Madden 11, and Star Wars: The Old Republic. The online service AutoLog for Need for Speed looks interesting with it making online seamlessly. Bulletstorm is looking really impressive with they mixed up shooting and using powers. EA focused on the games and this is what I like to see.

1. Nintendo. Easily Nintendo had the best E3. They focused on the games. Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Mario Sports Mix, Epic Mickey, Kirby's Epic Yarn, Goldeneye 007, and Donkey Kong Country Returns. Zelda looks wonderful with using Wii Motion Plus for your sword, whip, bombs, and other items. Nintendo also showed the 3DS, which is best new hardware at E3. Kid Icarus: Uprising for 3DS I thought was a Wii game for a moment because of how good the graphics look. It is great to see Pit, Kirby, and Donkey Kong in the spotlight again after not having their own games for a while. Nintendo showed 2 games for DS Golden Sun: Dark Dawn (which was at last year's E3) and Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies. I think these games are going to be great but I wish they would have more DS games in the conference. This year Nintendo they had the games that blew me away making them #1 by miles.
