Getting this on day 1. The demo was awesome. I did not like fable, but this game feels a lot better. Almost diablo-esque, but from a 3rd peson perspective instead of isometric. I may be way off, but it really seemed awesome.

I'm planning on getting it, although it will be later this year. I think I'm one of the few that actually liked FF XIII. For me, Kingdoms of Amalur is what I'm looking forward to.

The Good

A constant supply of interesting weapons and armor

Combat can be fun when it gets in a groove

Skill trees give you a lot of room to mold your character

Co-op play can be enjoyable as long as both players are around the same level.

The Bad

The story doesn't get interesting until the final minutes

Too many elements chop up the pace

Area attacks and status effects are poorly implemented

Ranged combat is unsatisfying.

Kevin VanOrd

sums the score given in "the good vs the bad". I for one don't see a reason for a 5.5. To be honest most of the "bad" points are purely based on user preference.

The story...A lot of people would agree that a final fantasy story isn't interesting until the end...and some would even argue that it never gets interesting. Yet the games generally score high. The story is interesting to those that find it interesting...not everyone is a Tolkien fan. (i'm sure there are better examples, but this is the one i'm using).

I'm not sure if the reference to "elements" is all the games features bundled together, or if there are too many things on screen and the game is getting choppy framrates (if framerates is an issue, it should be fixed, that alone is a crippling flaw) if the elements are "unbalanced" as he states in the article, From what i've read, and have played, i would disagree the game seemed to be balanced for single player and 2 player co-op combat, it's not like we are playing pvp on this game.

I found area attacks to be quite effective, and just as easy to execute...I have not tried status effects therefore i cannot form an opinion on them, enemies die too fast to even want to put a "poison" debuff on them. He could reference it to only being 2 player co-op...which almost renders status effect buffs useless altogether.

Ranged combat was awesome. It was great fun lobbing grenades at the enemy, then rushing up for sweeping kills with melee. That is where the game really shines, the implementation of both types of combat are what too human is all about in reference to gameplay. The targeting system is buggy for ranged, but that is a minor issue and easily overlooked.

The "good" items, are just that...they're good. Overall I can't find a justified reason to give it a 5.5 based on "flaws". There aren't any flaws in this game that other games with higher ratings don't equally share. I'd say the review is supposed to be non-biased, but it feels like this one is. Especially with so many other sites giving it a deservedly higher score.

Granted all my "opinions" are just that. But I'm trying to point out that a 5.5 review was based mostly on his "opinion" of the game. Most of his "bad" list contain personal preference, and not a game killing technical flaw. This actually brings me to a completely different conclusion then what i started with. Reviews should be done by more than one individual. It's ok if we have one individual compile all the reviews done in the office and write up a final score based on the average, but it should consist of more than one personality playing the game. That way we can get a score based on multiple opinions and not one person who looked as if he is on the "bashing" side of this forum topic.

All the talk about how much fun people are having with this game is making me want to run out and get it right now. I have to wait and make sure that my wife didn't get it for my b-day before i do.
I do like hearing the positive stories about it though, so keep them coming!
If SK already has the green light to make the final 2 titles in the too human series, They will have a bunch of time to really polish the next title up...and work towards that mid 8-9 that they deserve! (and get that camera issue fixed, it's not hard, allow the user to hold the LB down while moving the right analog stick to rotate the camera....problem solved).

I will say that I wish the console never got the RROD. But for all the games it has (right now) it's worth getting it fixed to play them. I will eventually get a PS3, but so far still don't have a good reason to buy one. Even though i want to play mgs4, i can't justify 460 dollars for one game.

so I will not stop playing my 360 as long as the games keep coming. Even if I have 10 RROD's (only had one so far...but I don't get to play that often, with school, work, and wife all being factors in my gaming world).

Anyway, back to Too Human and the score it received...5.5, it's a little low, even if it isn't the prettiest, smoothest, and most fun game out there...it still has to be better than the movie themed game mentioned...

[QUOTE="JPOBS"]Seriously, i dont understand how you can like Too human, and then have the gall to say something like this about Goldeneye.

for shame.

BioShockOwnz

Have you tried it over the last 5 or so years? It didn't hold up well at all, and that's because it wasn't all it was made out to be at first. Heck, Halo: CE launched with the original Xbox, and it still holds up well as an FPS, but GoldenEye? Not so much.

it's true unfortunately. If i were to play Goldeneye right now. I'd turn it off. It was a great game for its time, and very innovative considering the technology that was out. Now it's just an old FPS though. Halo will also fall into this category someday. It's the destiny of most FPS games out there. (before you get upset, i said most...i still enjoy some UT every now and then :D)

[QUOTE="McGregor"]

Why are people calling it a "flop" at all? I think the game is definately going to have a fan base. I personally loved the demo but have not purchased the game yet (due to the wife hinting that she got it for my birthday...which is soon...she's such a good listener). I did preorder it, and was also on the fence about purchasing because of the reviews...but i enjoyed the demo, so how can i not enjoy the rest of the game? Even if there was NO story, i'd still enjoy the game play. Ultimately I'm trying to say that I don't think the word "flop" should be used. A game that has only been out for 3 days is still in an undefined state of success IMO, we need to give it time. On another hand I'm glad to see that gamers are enjoying this title, because of their positive comments I will definitely keep the game if I happen to unwrap it in the near future.

The game is a flop, no denying that. But I still love it

I won't admit it...yet, but your comment made me laugh.

Have you played Lair or Haze?

TreyoftheDead

lol

Apparently they don't suck any more, people just "didn't know how to play them"

Exactly what some have bee saying, even trying to spin it into ''it's a love or hate thing'' even when the general consensus is negative for both critics and gamers. So it's not, it's just a a few ppl trying to justify a flop.

Most people who are posting in this thread who have purchased the full game are actually enjoying it. :?

In fact, though I may be mistaken, I haven't seen a poster in this thread who owns the game and completely agrees with the negative reviews. What's up with that?

I'm sure there are many gamers out there who have purchased Too Human and don't like it. However, the people defending it here aren't "justifying a flop", that's for silly fanboys, they are trying to fight the blind hate being spread by people who are refusing to give the game a chance.

that is too bad. I thought the demo was good (after a 2nd playthrough, first time through, i was disappointed). I would have to say that i didn't hype this game, although I was pulling for it to do well. I guess this review doesn't mean it won't do well, but it doesn't help it either. Overall the game is fun, control style is new, graphics are decent, apparently the storyline isn't that great but it has potential to open up. It's too bad that after all the design, concepts, and development time put into this game it did so bad. I still plan on purchasing it, but I might rent it first. (I did snag the pre-order, but i'll just rent it and enjoy the cool armor :D...i've spent money on worse...i used to play WoW!)
